Sounds exactly how you’d expect a Geordie Greep solo effort to sound: briilliantly pretentious and sonically excellent, with absurdists lyrics and compelling storytelling.
My only criticism is that this could easily have been a Black Midi record and would be better for it, as in places it missed the bite added so effectively by Picton and Simpson.
Some land better than others but as a whole project it really feels like a lot is added with these remixes
Their best in over a decade
Was really surprised just how much I love this album. I like Wunderhorse a lot and Cub is great, but they’ve way exceeded my expectations here. The album tracks maintain the high level set by the singles, and in some cases like Superman even surpass them. It doesn’t reinvent the wheel, but it is near enough a perfect execution of an indie rock record that incorporates other elements without wearing it’s influences too heavily. Really, really good record
Fontaines DC have been my favourite band for 5 years now, and life would genuinely be very different without them. It’s been great watching them grow and mature as a band, and this latest record exemplifies that expansion in their sound. They are clearly still finding their feet in their venture into this new territory, and some tracks dont land quite as well as others, but those that do REALLY land - Starburster, Death Kink and Favourite being the highlights. While the energy might not be what it once was (understandably), the songwriting remains excellent
Overproduced in places and some of the lyrics are a bit on the nose, but on the whole a good indie record
Personally prefer the first album, but this is still very good. Bending Hectic is the bands best song
