finally my favorite butterfly species gets some recognition! a very eclectic record which is what i would expect from a member of radiohead. it's lush and ambient and weird. i think its length does work against it though. the sound o'brien cultivated here deserves a longer runtime to flesh itself out.
this record sounds like it was made to soundtrack cartoon supervillains
i absolutely love the pacing of this record. it feels like the songs are marching along for lack of a better description, which i think fits the lyrical content and is just a really cool effect. owusu's lyrics are sharp and have a finger on the pulse of digital politics. i think it can be a little unfocused sonically at times, but the wide range of influences do come together overall i think.
this feels like music i'd unknowingly bite through my tongue to in the best way. it's droning and atmospheric and repetitive like an incantation.
really one of the foundational works of minimalism and the 20th century as a whole. daunting at first but it's so sonically lush it draws you into its world. i think it's so interesting to hear threads of 18 musicians through the music i listen to, notably bowie and sufjan stevens.
