Avicii - TIM

This might be some of Avicii's best work, it's different and not necessarily "Avicii" but that's what made him great. I think this album shows why he was so important to the genre. He wasn't afraid to push the envelope and try new things. Bad Reputation is a tropical track that fits in perfectly to today's musical landscape, yet it's easy to forget that he made these before all this was truly "popular."

Peace of Mind is a strange yet intriguing opener that I think sets ... read more

Muse - Simulation Theory

What a return to form. It's different and wild but this is the best MUSE has sounded since Black Holes. The instrumentation on nearly every track is impressive as hell and the alternative versions are beautiful. The album as a whole feels cohesive musically in ways that Drones didn't. It's the perfect follow up to The 2nd Law while blending the best elements of Black Holes. Algorithm may be a top 3 opener from all their albums.

Jon Hopkins - Singularity

I really think he topped immunity with this one. It's like the perfect blend of everything I love about his music. The hard hitting beats from immunity, the weird space + scratches from insides, the piano, and the spacey ethereal stuff from his earlier days.

Knowing that this album comes after a ton of self reflection (meditation, fasts, etc) I can really feel that through the music. Feels like Hopkins is almost exploring himself in the music. The roller coaster of emotions that was Luminous ... read more

Nils Frahm - All Melody

I don't think this album is what anybody expects out of Nils but he tested boundaries and the way in which he produced these tracks (old instruments, in the funkhaus, in wells, etc.) is a masterpiece in itself.

On first listen I was both blown away and underwhelmed but upon listening more, and with headphones to boot, I've fallen in love with this record.

Fleet Foxes - Crack-Up

For how niche of a sound they have, I'm shocked at how much I've been listening to this album. Serious AOTY work. I've even gotten friends who would never ever listen to fleet foxes ask me what's playing and then ask for the album. They tell me later they're in love with it.

It did take 2-3 listens to grow on me but since then I haven't been able to stop listening.

Hippo Campus - Landmark

For a first LP I'm shocked at how good the production and mixing is on this album. Every song sounds great through the speakers on my phone and I can say that for hardly any albums.

As for the music I think it's a brilliant blend of rock, pop and indie. The riffs and beats are standouts for me while the vocals feel a bit forced/unnatural sometimes but overall I love it. There's some seriously catchy tunes in here and they're spread out perfectly on the album. Genuinely my favorite release of ... read more

"The last two tracks gave me the widest range of emotions ever when listening to music. I'm still not sure whether it was because of the whole journey culminating at luminous beings and recovery or if it was the tracks themselves but jeez. What a journey this is"
