so since Foo Fighters dropped, I'll express how much I used to listen to the band in the past, and that I just love them and of course there will be glazing in the review, but honestly? it deserves it
the self-titled debut album for Dave Grohl's new band (it was only him at the time) Foo Fighters, after the tragic end of Nirvana with their lead singer Kurt Cobain just committing suicide for some reason, Dave Grohl wanted to do something about it, so he just went to the studio and record everything literally by himself, played every single instrument, drums, guitar, bass, and even vocals, and what makes it even crazier that he did the record in 5 days, and just knowing that makes the record impressive, especially after leaving a band that he was just a drummer in.
there are a lot of gems in here, just like "This Is a Call", a song that I'm still going back to, I love its energetic quick guitars in the back, the song just sounds fabulous, another one is "Big Me", it got a really fun humoristic sound in the background, it's short, sweet, and unique because at that time grunge wasn't supposed to sound like that.
when the album came out everyone was wondering how Dave would make it sound, everyone was curious, including critics and fans, critics were impressed, but of course they just couldn't help but have comparisons to his previous band, fans on the other side, in that 90's grunge era, the album was exactly what they needed, fans embraced the album and Dave due to how fun it felt, unlike other grunge records at that time, which were often associated with misery and sadness, as I mentioned before the record was recorded in only 5 days, so fans loved the raw scrappy feeling of it, and what did Nirvana fans do? they liked the idea of the band, to keep the spirit of the band scene alive.
for a lot of fans, the album is not their best, but what made it so special is how Dave moved on quickly from the band's departure, and how important it is for the next sound of the band.
