It's very enjoyable, I dont think it has any huge weaknesses either, but I feel like I already heard all of this done way better across his other projects. Which also makes it even more questionable to me that Eyelash didn't make the album, even though it is easily one of his best solo songs this decade.
The concept of listening to JPEGMAFIA and expecting the rap abilities of MF DOOM, Kendrick Lamar or whoever, is honestly such an interesting double standard to me. Is it his best? No. Is it better than Black Ben Carson? For me, yes. Sry, but if this exact same album dropped under Jane Remover's name, y'all would've eaten it up instantly.
As for the music itself, I personally thought the first 14 tracks were really good. They were creative, fun, chaotic in the right way and ... read more
This album instantly grabbed me with that cover that looks like it could come straight out of SpongeBob, and honestly it kinda sounds like that too. The production is insanely fun because it’s so playful, warm and innocent. There’s a subtle melancholic undertone, but it comes with this sense of hope and optimism that keeps everything feeling bright and warm. What really stands out is how the album moves between dreamy, colorful soundscapes and moments of pure nostalgic familiarity, ... read more
She's a hidden Peggy fan and you can’t convince me otherwise. She’s got a song with "CANCELLED!" that's literally stylized like a Peggy song and the content of the album is even cornier than anything he’s ever done.
Nah, seriously, this might be her worst album in terms of songwriting. There’s just no ambition left at all. I’m not even a hater, folklore and evermore are some of my favorite albums of the decade, even though I wouldn’t call ... read more
Sorry, but I just don’t see what others are seeing here.
On paper, this should be for me, it's jazzy, flashy production, chipmunk soul vibes, solid features. But unfortunately, it doesn’t really hit like that.
After the first track, "Don’t Save Me", I genuinely thought I was about to love this album. Great production, John Michel comes through nicely, and Kennadi Rose completely stole the show, her chorus is stunning and her voice is just beautiful.
But the ... read more
As soon as he put on the big ass suit I was healed and happy. Nah seriously, I fucking love David Byrne, this guy is something else, man. So passionate and expressive, like he’s dancing through a fever dream.
To be honest, I only got into Oklou fairly late, specifically when she dropped the single "take me by the hand" featuring Bladee. And what can I say? That track instantly caught my interest and made me want to hear more from her. So I listened to all the singles and her debut mixtape "Galore" as well, and overall, I was quite into it.
This album feels nostalgic in a very specific way, like the mid-2000s, at the end of the PS2 cycle, a year before the PS3 would come out and ... read more
Unreal how fresh and clean this still sounds. Ridiculously catchy, full of joy and effortlessly uplifting. Curtis' vocals are stunning, the lyrics are socially conscious and powerful and the production is straight up next level for the early '70s. Also the fact that this is his debut is just crazy. Honestly, there’s nothing more to say, it’s just a timeless classic.
Here it is, the second album from The Smile within a year. It's not really a step forward, but it's not a big step back either. It just exists, which I like, but nothing more.
I don't know... Of course Thom and Jonny have evolved over the years and decades, but what I miss here is the ambition to fully flesh out the great ideas that are definitely there and take them to the edge of perfection. I get it, after over 25 years with Radiohead, where that exact pursuit of perfection ... read more
I'll probably write a more detailed review soon, or maybe not, depending on my mood, but for now, I can only say one thing: what an incredible solo debut! This is hands down the best debut album I've heard in at least five years. It feels like a true standout, and for me, it's the best release of the year. After the amazing Magdalena Bay album, I honestly didn't think it was possible for someone to top that, but "The New Sound" managed to do just that in a way I ... read more
It’s not as bad as some people are saying, but let’s be honest, it’s nowhere near the quality of her other work. I’m not sure… I’m glad it exists because it introduces more people to Sophie, but that’s really all it has going for it. Personally, I don’t think I’ll ever listen to it again. In fact, depending on how I feel in the near future, I might end up rating it even worse.
This is absolutely mesmerizing. Each song hits you right in the feels, one after another, creating a powerful, emotional journey that resonates deeply.
She’s just hitting my sweet spot with her new album. Honestly, there’s not much else to say.
Just end your career and generally stay away from public media; that would make this overall messed-up world a slightly better place, thank you.
A new JPEGMAFIA album always generates a ton of excitement and hype. He's dropped critically acclaimed albums one after another and has brought his own unique sound to the hip-hop scene. His style is so distinct that it’s definitely not for everyone. I also have to admit, that you can't ignore his polarizing and controversial persona, especially after working with Kanye West despite his outward values, which made a lot of people see him as a hypocrite who doesn't stick to ... read more
It seems like maybe she is the fart.
This album is uninspired and generic, playing it safe by following current trends without offering anything new. The album title "Y2K!" kinda suggests a theme, but over its short length, it never even gives off that 2000s vibe. Also, it feels like she wants to challenge Lil Wayne to a battle over who can rap about poop more often and better.
An album by Clairo has never sounded better instrumentally.
I've always loved listening to Clairo and was a huge fan of her last album "Sling". You could already see an impressive artistic growth in that one, so my expectations for this new album were high. And well, I wasn't disappointed. She delivered, and how. The melodic harmonies and enchanting tunes are incredibly calming, providing a sense of relaxation. However, it's the instrumental arrangements that truly ... read more
