After an absolutely legendary career and a huge amount of classic albums, Michael Jackson dropped Invincible in 2001. It might not get the same universal love as Off The Wall, Thriller, Bad, HIStory, or Dangerous, but to be honest, I think it’s a stunning album in its own right. It’s not trying to rewrite history, but it quietly reminds you why MJ was a genius.
With Invincible, Michael leaned more into R&B, and of course, he does it like only he can, with that perfect mix of soul, power, punch and emotion. The album kicks off strong with tracks full of energy and punch, like Unbreakable featuring that great, but unexpected, verse from Notorious B.I.G., Heartbreaker, and Invincible itself. These songs hit hard and immediately get you going.
Then comes this absolutely beautiful run with Break of Dawn, Heaven Can Wait, You Rock My World, Butterflies. This stretch is just pure magic. The songwriting, the melodies, Michael’s vocals, it all hits so hard. And it’s just so touching and beautiful. This stretch really could get a crown man to cry. Those songs are just a perfect blend of smoothness and emotion, showing a side of MJ’s artistry that’s often overlooked.
Sure, there are some tracks on the second half that don’t quite hit the top-tier level, but even those are enjoyable in their own way. And I really like Cry, that one’s so touching and heartfelt, it adds a nice emotional depth. Michael really was so genuine, and that’s all over his music.
All in all, Invincible might not be Michael’s best album, but it’s definitely underappreciated. It showcases his greatness again, proving that even later in his career, he could still deliver beautiful, powerful music that deserves way more love. Live Long Legend🤍
