If only he had been fueled, not constrained, by his obsessions, this could have been really interesting.

‘Invincible’ is a relevant and rejuvenated comeback album make overlong and embarassing by the unavoidable fact that Michael Jackson is a) exceedingly rich and b) a bit of a wanker.

Rolling Stone
We're placed squarely in Michael Jacksonland, a bizarre place where every sparkling street is computer-generated, every edifice is larger than life and every song is full of grandiose desperation.

Q Magazine

Though fatally flawed, Invincible does boast its fair share of sonic exhilaration.

50
Slant Magazine

In the end, Invincible breaks little ground, instead sticking to familiar sounds of both his recent past and near-ancient history.

43
Entertainment Weekly

On Invincible, his come-on songs to women are petulant rather than mature, and his save-the-world odes feel more fueled by ego than care.

The Guardian

After 76 unremitting minutes, you're left in no doubt: like its creator, Invincible has simply gone too far.

Uncut
Starts badly and gets worse for a very long time.

Hot Press

Invincible has the air of everything Prince has done since Diamonds & Pearls: beautifully crafted tracks, top-notch performances, not a blemish in the merchandise (unless of course it was put there on purpose) but still light years from his best work.

NOW Magazine

He splashed out $30 million to make Invincible, so you might expect Michael Jackson to return with more than simply 80 minutes of embarrassingly out-of-date R&B.

The reviews on this album seriously leave me wondering if anybody here actually listened to it in its entirety without a bias. This album is groovy, funky, goodness. Every song on here (excluding Heartbreaker and 2000 Watts) is above a 7. Why do yall hate this? I don't get it. This album isn't perfect, but its really really good. I guarantee if Sony didn't do such a bad job putting this album out, it would have amazing reviews.

This is a masterpiece. An essential. A classic. Treat it as so.

Overhated and underappreciated.

After an absolutely legendary career and a huge amount of classic albums, Michael Jackson dropped Invincible in 2001. It might not get the same universal love as Off The Wall, Thriller, Bad, HIStory, or Dangerous, but to be honest, I think it’s a stunning album in its own right. It’s not trying to rewrite history, but it quietly reminds you why MJ was a genius.

With Invincible, Michael leaned more into R&B, and of course, he does it like only he can, with that perfect mix of ... read more

If this is supposed to be Mike’s worst work then I don’t know what to say.
