It's super theatrical and hyperbolic but that's what makes it great. My singular criticism is that it feels a bit scarce for an album taking this approach. I think leaning into the chamber pop side of the album would have really complimented the album, with some massive string sections etc.
Top 3 Tracks:
1. This is the Killer Speaking
2. Count the Ways
3. The Scythe
OFFICIAL: Howlin' Pele holds more power than the President of the United States.
Top Three Tracks:
1. The Hives Forever Forever The Hives
2. Roll Out the Red Carpet
3. Paint a Picture
I love how idiosyncratic Cate's sound has become over the last three albums, and yet each still has it's own identity. This leans into the weirdness we saw on Pompeii, and it sounds brilliant for it. I saw someone else's review saying it's very subtle, and I'd agree. The run of tracks from Mothers of Riches through to Ride is amazing though.
Top Three Tracks:
1. Body as a River
2. Mothers of Riches
3. Heaven is No Feeling
3D Country 🤝 Heavy Metal
This is a decade-defining album for me. I literally cannot get enough of the geese.
Top Three Tracks:
1. Long Island City Here I Come
2. Au Pays du Cocaine
3. Taxes
Wow - where does the hate for this album come from?! Such a heartwarming album with lovely orchestral arrangements, endearing lyrics, and tonnes of character. Sure, it doesn't say anything too profound, but it's not trying to. Take it at face value and you've just got a really fun listen!
Top Three Tracks:
1. Don't Be Like That
2. The Avant Garde
3. A Door Called No
A Big Thief is like a big warm hug from a friend, and Double Infinity is no exception. It definitely doesn't reach the peak of DNWMIBIY, but very few albums do. A subpar Big Thief album is still better than most albums. I love it.
Top Three Tracks:
1. Grandmother
2. All Night All Day
3. Los Angeles
First time I've really got into a Wolf Alice album, and I'm glad I did! The bookends of the album are fantastic, and even the middle is enjoyable enough.
Top Three Tracks:
1. Just Two Girls
2. The Sofa
3. Play It Out
Have been trying to expand my taste this year, and this is one of the albums I'd have probably overlooked otherwise. Very glad I gave this one a spin as it's one I've been finding myself going back to. Love the vibe throughout and will be sure to check out some of her earlier stuff off the back of it.
Top Three Tracks:
1. Nettles
2. Waco, Texas
3. Tempest
The queen of Irish indie country pop strikes again! Listen, at this point CMAT is just so reliable when it comes to crafting catchy hooks and well-structured songs. Three for three as far as I'm concerned.
Top three Tracks:
1. When a Good Man Cries
2. EURO-Country
3. Take a Sexy Picture of Me
Fun little album. Playing Classics is indeed a classic, and even some of the transitionary tracks work within the scope of the album. Didn't knock me out but I've enjoyed returning to it this week.
What a nice album. I like a lot of the songs here, though think it's maybe a few tracks too long for me. I also think there's two albums battling for light on this album, with one being a more folky singer-songwriter vibe and the other a more indie pop kinda thing. Having said that, I really like both sounds and think they make for a great album.
Top Three Tracks:
1. Guy Fawkes Tesco Dissociation
2. Kitchen
3. Tall Girl
If you condensed the first album into three minutes, it would sound like this.
This is not a bad thing.
First TFS album for me - and I like what I hear! Some lovely quiet moments and epic big moments across the album, and some of the guitar work is fab.
Top 3 Tracks:
1. Teeth Marché
2. Dunning Kruger's Loser Cruiser
3. Moscovium
Perfect soundtrack for a night drive imo. Tracks 1 and 4 are decent, but really the two songs in the middle of the listing are the belters - seriously good tracks!
You can just tell they're having fun! Can't say there's too much new ground broken or anything completely dazzling, but there's some good riffs and catchy hooks. Perfect festival band imo. Also Pokémon reference ( ͡° ͜ʖ ͡°)👍
Top Three Tracks:
1. liquidizer
2. mangetout
3. u and me at home
Boooys liiike meeee feeel iit aaaaalllllll!
Cor blimey this was a real surprise. BC Camplight has been in my heavy rotation for probably seven or eight years now, but the new singles didn't really grab me on first listen. I'm pleased to say I was very wrong there, and that any of these singles could easily be top 10 singles of the year at this rate! The album has some of Brian's catchiest hooks in my opinion, and is probably the most consistent record he's put out in terms ... read more
It's back-to-front break-up indie pop - and there's nothing wrong with that! There are some seriously catchy hooks going on, and some gorgeously blunt and lo-fi acoustics - always a big green tick imo. Maybe the main barrier for me is the lyrics, which feel a bit on the nose at times.
Top Three Tracks:
1. Lucky Stars
2. Try to Feel My Pain
3. Down to Be Wrong
