Geto Boys - Mind Playing Tricks on Me
100

Scarface absolutely kills his verses on this song. The Beat is very calming but also kind of eerie at the same time. This dong is a pioneer for vulnerability in rap songs, and it was done in such an amazing way.

Juvenile - Boiling Point
38

I rate this album with no hate towards Juvenile or Mannie Fresh, but I have to be honest. The Boiling Point was very disappointing. Maybe I was expecting too much considering Juvenile and Mannie Fresh haven't been in their primes since 2006. But I was holding out hope ever since the album was released because Juvenile is my favorite rapper, 400 Degreez is my favorite album, and Mannie Fresh is my favorite producer. But I was wrong.
The only song over a 9/10 is B.B.B. Both versions are ... read more

Fats Domino - Fats Domino Swings
91

If one word could describe Fats Domino's career, his musical genius, and him as a person, I couldn't pick one word. I would have to pick two: underrated and underappreciated. In the 50s and 60s, there might have been several artists who had more big time hits than Fats Domino, but none were as consistent.
"Fats Domino Swings" is a great example of this fact. The album is short, but each song like Fats Domino is showing a part of his life. There is heartbreak, love, and ... read more

Lil Wayne - Tha Carter III
94

I've tried to write this review several times, and I've had to start over each time. Tha Carter III is difficult to describe. Its Wayne's masterpiece. It is the album of 2008. It proved the Wayne, a rapper who's been known to not be a big album guy, can come out with a great album. My favorite songs were A Milli, Tie My Hands, Mrs. Officer, and 3-peat. 3-peat is the best intro song I've heard from an album so far. Some of the songs near the end I'm not a huge fan ... read more

Nas - Illmatic
100

I know the rating is no surprise to anyone who's ever even heard of someone talk about Nas's legendary debut album, "Illmatic", but its true. This is the boom bap album that everyone should think of when talking about the genre. Nas has breathtaking bars with beats that just feel like New York. But something else is this album feels like a movie. It was very hard for me to pick my favorite track which is a tie (N.Y. State of Mind and Represent). It was hard for me to pick a ... read more

Lil Wayne - Tha Carter VI
35

On first listen, I genuinely thought this album was an eight out of ten, but something always felt off with that ranking. After several more listens, I realized that The Carter VI is not a good album, and it is disappointing. I grew up listening to Lil Wayne, and Wayne has had bad albums before like 500 Degreez, Rebirth, and Tha Block is Hot, but never in The Carter Series. I always thought that The Carter series was Wayne's baby, but then he released this album and disappointed in a lot ... read more

OutKast - Stankonia
98

Smooth and Futuristic. Stankonia crosses through multiple genres. It takes elements of rap, rock, and funk. The album cover really describes how the album is smooth and funky. Stankonia is highlighted by its singles Ms. Jackson and B.O.B., but the album is also so much more than that. There are genuinely no skips. I've heard people complain that the album is unnecessarily long, and that just isn't true. The interludes are hilarious and genius, but they also keep the listener ... read more

Lil Wayne - Tha Block Is Hot
47

The first of the three albums in Lil Wayne's Hot Boys Era leaves a lot to be desired. The album definitely has its moments from songs Tha Block is Hot, Loud Pipes, and Fuck Tha World, but then the rest of the album is either not good or just very average. The album came at a period where Wayne was still figuring out his style, and I believe the reason this album is so mid is that Cash Money knew Wayne was the next rapper that was going to be a success. Birdman saw the success of Juvenile, ... read more

N.W.A. - Straight Outta Compton
88

The formula of N.W.A.'s Straight Outta Compton was simple but effective. Dr. Dre would produce most of the songs, and Ice Cube would write the lyrics for most of the songs. Every song on the album is produced extremely well. Dr. Dre shows the pure talent that he has even early in his career, and Ice Cube shows his bold lyrics as one of the hip-hop writers of all time.
What becomes extremely clear when listening to this album is that N.W.A. definitely knows who their two best rappers are. ... read more

Clipse - Let God Sort Em Out
96

Clipse made up of the duo of siblings No Malice and Pusha T releases the ultimate comeback album, but the reason goes further than them. Its a comeback for Clipse, but also for John Legend, Nas, and hip hop in general.
This album has the shit talking vibe of the early 2000s with a very religious aura also. The intro song, "Birds Don't Sing" is powerful and emotional. While listening, I went through all of the emotions, and it is the first fucking song. There has been a trend in ... read more

Juvenile - 400 Degreez
100

I think that most people when reviewing this album miss the point. They didn't know it was like when Juvenile and Cash Money records came about with their best-selling album "400 Degreez". They didn't know that this album was a staple of Southern Rap. It forced the north and the west coast to respect what was going on in the south so much that Jay-Z heard the lead off song in this album "Ha", and he immediately knew he had to be a part of what was going on in ... read more
