It's no wonder Stankonia consolidated OutKast's status as critics' darlings, and began attracting broad new audiences: its across-the-board appeal and ambition overshadowed nearly every other pop album released in 2000.
They may come from the same part of the world as Arrested Development, but Stankonia - a concept album full of magic realist imagery and between-song skits - ain't no southern-fried hick hop; it's a cyberdelic, future-rap masterpiece.
Stankonia reeks of artful ambition rendered with impeccable skill — or as one song title so concisely has it, ”So Fresh, So Clean.” Take a deep breath and jump into this music.
Walls of trombones, gospel choirs, stuttering rhythms and two-step breakbeats back up Andre 3000 and Big Boi's rapid-fire, introspective rhymes. It's all eerily familiar but also sounds like it's from Mars, and hiphop is better for it.
The outstanding record of 2000, this Atlanta hip-hop pairing's fourth album spent 74 manic minutes bobbing between speed-rap and funked-up pleasures, addressing much of what is rotten in the genre and in America along the way.
Dre and Big Boi fill their technicolour vision with the ghosts of Sly Stone, James Brown and, most notably, Funkadelic-era George Clinton. Factor in some distinctly unorthodox production and you've rap at its risk-taking best.
Stankonia is staking its claim to sovereignty. A geographically elusive and psychedelically warped mental landmass, this is no playa-haters’ paradise, but the place “from which all funky things come.” Not Monaghan town, in other words.
Stankonia continues André 3000 and Big Boi’s progressive blend of hip-hop, funk, rock, and soul.
A genre-crossing futuristic trip with the boys!
When this album came out in 2000, Critics were dickriding it like their lives depends on it, Ms. Jackson was literally playing in funerals,15 year old girls were jearking off to shirtless Andre And My grandma bumped So Fresh, So Clean it in the whip so loud it made my poor grandpa deaf. This album caused a global earthquake, But is it really that good?

THE SHAQ & KOBE OF RAP ARE BACK AT IT AGAIN (Big Boi is Kobe for his mamba mentality and 3 stacks is Shaq cuz he is one chunky boi)
Stankonia is studio album numero quatro by THE Outkast, released on Halloween of 2000. Not only was this a commercial success, but myself and others agree that it is good as well. Let's break down the innovative production and diverse musical styles this album has to offer.

BARS FROM MARS!!!!!!
Seriously some of the most fun I’ve had listening to an album in a while. Outkast entertains you with their unbelievable word play and amazing flows that make this album an experience from start to finish.
Both Andre 3000, also known as André Lauren Benjamin, and Big Boi, also known as Antwan André Patton bring amazing flows and delivers that cements this as a rap classic. Andre mostly takes care of the verses of each song, sometimes rapping pretty ... read more
Is it a hot take that I didn't enjoy this album as much as others did? bc I love the experimentation and the retaining atmospheres of the melodies, sometimes reminiscent of ATLiens but it's that it sometimes is too much. Don't get me wrong: the production's great, some of the songs are iconic, the rapping by both Big Boi and André 3000 and the charisma and humor really adds to the experience. But I dunno, I just felt a bit let down and it makes me think this album ... read more
