I really despise music publications that give albums like this such incredibly high scores. Surgeon's release isn't bad, it's a very very atmospheric industrial techno album. There's a lot of whispy melodies, a lot of repetitive moments, but it typically follows a very similar pattern on each individual track. That's no where near my largest gripe. It's insane how forgettable 8 of these 9 songs are. You could listen to this project 10 times and not remember any moments. It's absolutely wild. Easily the worst complaint one could have of a techno album. It's polished so much to the point the personality got cleaned right out. My highlights were Soul Fire (which is the 1 song that is genuinely great), Triple Threat, and Empty Cloud.
I read the Sputnik review, and I'm going to response directly to it because it annoyed me so much. It reads incredibly like someone who checked out halfway through the album and reviewed the first 3 songs. I'm a fan of techno! I clicked on your review! Don't tell me why someone likes techno! Tell me why this album is good! Why did we dedicate a grand total of 2/5 paragraphs to the actual meat and potatoes of the album? Pretty simple, because a 2/5 is probably what this album deserves as a rating. I'll clock it in there.
