This is my first real listen through and ranking of any Camellia project. Electronic (don’t know what else to call it) is still a weak genre for me, as I don’t, and haven’t listened to much in my life. When I tell you that this album is already one of my favorites. The overall euphoric and upbeat theme this album makes it such a beautiful piece of work. The sound mixing in this is consistent, which usually makes or breaks an album. I love how he does his own vocals for the ... read more
I knew of “Golden Dandelions” for years, but never bothered to go deep into the actual album itself. I recently went through it, and it’s a great album. Starts off strong with “Fire”, and has a great run in the first half. It does drop off to a slower pace in the second half of the project, but the songs are more lyric based, and have soothing melodies. I don’t even know what to call this genre, but we need more of this. His vocals are what makes this album ... read more
I do not usually listen to Uzi, and this is his first project I am going through. I love the experimental approach he had going into this, while others obviously don’t. More variety through an album the more fun it is to listen to. His vocals and lyrics are on point and consistent though out. His features really make some of these songs. I can’t say that his music is my favorite, but what he does here is what other artists need to do more with projects, and just have an experimental ... read more
Starboy is a great album. This is where he truly started to excel in his talent. It is a dark themed album, as is with the rest of his projects. This surprised me when I went through it the first time. Tracks like “True Colors” and “Secrets” I fell in love with after going through it. Obviously tracks like “Starboy” and “Die For You” I knew beforehand. Some of the songs on here feel calm and smooth, while others are more hard and sudden, matching ... read more
After Hours, in my opinion, is Abels best project to date, and for very good reason. Abel brings back popular music trends from the past, with synth-heavy songs. The sounds design in this album is damn near perfect, which makes this such a good listen. The story behind it, of a dwindling relationship/self reflection, is what drives this album for me. I don’t know if theres any other albums that have lyrics that hit as hard as this, in a sad/depressing way. “Save Your Tears” ... read more
His first true album (not acknowledging “Trilogy”, that’s just a 3-in-1). This is what put him in the spotlight with tracks like “Can’t Feel My Face” and “Earned It”. Going through all of it for the first time, the riff in “Real Life” was an immediate hook into this. The slower pace of this album matched with the story behind the album with his love life. The last four tracks (not Angel) are so good for not being the most popular songs ... read more
This is my first time listening to brakence, let alone the first project of his I’m listening to. I didn’t think I could like an album so quickly. There are so many things he does so well in this album that just make it even better to listen to. The seamless transitions between tracks, the funny samples he uses, and every track has a great melody to it. Nothing seems messy, or out of place. What makes this a great project is the story behind it, and how it all comes back in the end ... read more
Heard some of these tracks beforehand through friends, and just listening to his work, but never took the time to go through it. Some of the tracks on here are great, but I can tell where he can clean things up. “Lost Souls” is a beautiful song, and is slowly becoming my favorite on the album. “Family Ties” will always be the best off of it tho. He has a great variety with hype songs, to deep and emotional, and he does it well. being able to do that young in your career ... read more
I want this Kanye back. So many great songs, with only one real miss. All the songs have great and catchy melodies that get stuck in your head, along with his incredible lyrics woven in to give this project a driving force. “Homecoming” and “Stronger” will always be my favorites off of this, while “Champion” and “Can’t Tell Me Nothing” are slowly creeping up. Nearly everything about this album is perfect, which makes it a great listen every ... read more
It’s sad where Panic is now compared to this. This album is beautiful, and the last truly great album from them. Uries vocals are, as always, on point and beautiful throughout. The melodic highs during the chorus of “Nicotine” , “This Is Gospel”, and “Casual Affair” are so beautiful, and it feels as I’m being transported to a different world. “Far Too Young To Die” was nowhere near my favorite before going through, now it’s my ... read more
Beats and melody is what’s keeping this above a 70. They have lost all that they had and are just going with mainstream trends. Fortunately, it works here. The variety in this is what makes it somewhat worth a listen. “Roaring 20s” is the only great song on here, as I love the vibes and instrumentals from it. As much as the media pushes it, “High Hopes” isn’t even in my top half of the project for me. I think i’ve just heard it too much. Instrumentals ... read more
My first Tame Impala project I’ve gone through. This album is such a vibe. You just hit play, lay back and listen. Best modern day synth/dreamy album that i’ve listened to. “Let It Happen” is a perfect song. I rarely rate songs as perfect, but a song like that deserves it. The fact that most of the sounds in this are practical, and applicable in concert, is incredible. “The Moment” and “‘Cause I’m a Man” are growing on me, and are so ... read more
Outside of just how damn catchy these songs are, this album is the start of the unfortunate downfall for Panic. This is one of the few albums where every track is somewhat catchy for me, as I can listen to any of them and like it. Lyrics and message behind this is whatever, as this is a step down from their last project. Hot take, but I’ve always loved “Hallelujah”, but “Golden Days” and “LA Devotee” are the best tracks off of the album. Uries vocals ... read more
There was a million different ways he could be gone following After Hours, and he nailed it with this purgatory theme, as you’re trapped in the afterlife, and going through a self reflection period. The 80s vibes I get from this makes this so cool to listen to, with all the synths and great sound designs. Lyrics and background are great, along with his vocal range in this, which is more than previous projects in my opinion. “Less Than Zero” and “Gasoline” are my ... read more
I was introduced to glaive somewhat recently, and he puts out very different music from what I usually listen to. From the opening beats and sounds of “eyesore”, I knew this was going to be great. Such powerful kicks and beats scattered throughout, and great production makes this what it is. For an EP, it’s fantastic to listen to. I wish he would expand on this, and have it longer than an EP. I love the vibes this gives off, and wish there was more of it. It drops off in the ... read more
His best project. So many great songs, and can never get sick of any of them. His production talent shines throughout, and almost every song is instantly recognizable. When you are able to put out a project where that can happen, you know you made something great.
Best: All Of The Lights
Worst: Blame Game
Always has been one of my favorite projects from him, and that hasn't changed over the years. This project is ear-candy with all of the unique sounds and melodies he uses. This is a very specific vibe that can't be described, but it is only something he could do.
Best: House Of Balloons/Glass Table Girls
Worst: Coming Down
His most replayable project, and for good reason. Riddled with classics, perfect beats and melodies, and a powerful and unfiltered story woven in perfectly. So many unique things he does in here, such as the audio after the songs of family/friends talking. As his first "big" project, he set the bar for everyone else when it was set for him.
Best: m.A.A.d city
Worst: Compton
Such a powerful and beautiful journey through this project. Not an easy listen in the slightest, but when you go through it and embrace everything, it is a powerful story on the level that he continues to put out for every project.
Best: Savior
Worst: Rich Interlude/Spirit Interlude
Perfection. That's all that needs to be said. Strongest opener with Thundercat to drag you in, then it is just poetry song after song. Not every song will be as melody heavy as "Alright" or "King Kunta", but in a project like this, they don't have to be. I am convinced this will never age. I am in love with the jazz theming behind this project.
Best: Alright
Last Best: Mortal Man
