This album was SO much better than I expected. I think this may have converted me from a k-pop indifferent to fan???
My experience with this genre is so weird because I have always dismissed it as being a trend and a cash grab. That may be true still, but I can't deny that k-pop music is popular for a reason. It's fun, danceable, and catchy as hell.
This album takes many different approaches to mainstream music, many of which I connect with very well. The first 10 or so songs are the real standouts as they have a lot of character and are premium brain rot to say the least (not necessarily a bad thing). Jennie's vocals, the well produced hip-hop and club inspired beats, and the features really bring this album to life.
The last five tracks are all eh, but there were some okay moments sprinkled in there as well.
Overall, I was shocked at how much I enjoyed Ruby and I will definitely be listening to some more k-pop in the future.
