BIGGGGG fan of this mixtape. I first discovered Doechii in two ways: once on "Balloon" by Tyler, the Creator, and another on "Phenomenal" by Janelle Monáe. One of my favorite parts about her is her unapologetic demeanor. Her music is bold, distinct, abrasive, nostalgic, aggressive, and thought-provoking; as a feminist, I highly enjoy watching a woman be these things and not be despised, but rather, celebrated. This album is so brutal in the best way. I find a piece of myself in every track-- I think that was the intention. The production is so nuanced and unconventional that it just ropes you in from the get-go. I am a firm believer in women expressing their sexuality without shame or censorship, especially when they do it for the betterment of themselves and society, and this is a major theme I am picking up here.
