Grover Washington, Jr. - Mister Magic
NR

Gr(o)over Washington Jr. displays a pouring of refined and blissful jazz. Magical indeed.

The Deep - KPOP B!TCH
NR

Despite a few moments where it almost sinks into its mix of bubbly nostalgia with some of modern K-Pop's less interesting and abrasive elements, the sugary and yearnful club vibes are incredibly fun and hooking. The runtime certainly plays into its strengths, though I'd love a project that further fleshes out the intoxicant and irresistible qualities found here.

quickly, quickly - I Heard That Noise
NR

A sensitive and anxious quietness. Lost in this wistful surrender to the scattered pieces of memories and trauma that once coldly formed such a dependent and possessive relationship. The fragility of losing oneself in a supposed partnership that's only further bringing forth the worse in you, as you slowly realize it was all doomed from the start. Reckoning with this creation of a savior drowned in feelings of overcompensation that's not who you truly are, and overcoming this hopeless ... read more

Yuno Miles - ALBUM
NR

A labor of two distinct halves making a whole that's, actually fun! Mostly.

Quite enjoyed the introductory couple tracks that, though undeniably rough, are an honest, respectable attempt at a consistent pop rap vibe. The second half is the usual ridiculous shift from Yuno Miles that's comprised of repetition gags and lazy comedy which often miss the mark but if it hits, it can get a solid laugh out of me. And hey, we all oughta be a little stupid.

An album that does make you wonder ... read more

Slauson Malone 1 - A Quiet Farwell, 2016-2018
NR

That unresolved nothingness of all consuming dark; forced into an overwhelming sea of disaster and depression; the tragic shackles of blinding nostalgia for an innocent world. The weight of death's presence and life's absence, drowning and falling in this cruel, disconcerting place systemically created to isolate, exploit, blame, and murder you. The generational hurt inflicted by white supremacy on black people remains, loudly living in the endless echo of police gunshots. Slauson ... read more

The Red Krayola - The Parable of Arable Land
NR

An erratic flux of rampant expressionist freedom echoing post-war disillusionment exemplified with America's assaulting imperialist cold touch. Freaky and revolutionary.

Mei Ehara - Ampersands
NR

Modest yet vibrant and funky, with some ear candy and a sweet charm that make it so pleasurable to listen to.

chelmico - gokigen
NR

A merry roller-coaster entailing cozy winds of familiarity and a fun edge, like that of a tight friendship.

Danny Brown - Stardust
NR

Revival from a vicious and hateful cycle disguised as magical freedom, into a loving and self-appreciative star firmly living and dreaming; reconnecting with oneself and recognizing the hurt, but also the hustle and authenticity of pushing through thick and thin; embracing this wave of artists who've experienced isolation and suffering, yet still continue to freely and honestly proclaim their identities in spite of. Fun, emotional, and ultimately uplifting. Danny has essencemaxxed, and ... read more

Tommy february6 - Tommy february6
NR

This album's sure to kickstart an obsession in me as I go through Tomoko Kawase's absurdist concept so tailored for my brain, and just what an all-out debut this is. Produced and satirized with this toxic saccharinity, and full of cheesy bangers that are simply kind of genius in execution.

Thematically it's nothing short of incredible. The infantilization of women in (corporate) society seen through the heart of Tommy, our heroine frozen in time and lost in this dark dreamland. ... read more

Stove God Cook$ & Roc Marciano - Reasonable Drought
NR

Boastful rapping done almost pristinely, packing the fierceness of Marlo Stanfield himself into some of slickest modern Hip Hop out there. Naming your own debut after one of the greats isn't just sportful citing, it's setting that greatness in stone from the very start. Letting that bottled up magic flare up unrelentingly. The imposing aura of a God cookin'.

コシミハル [Miharu Koshi] - Parallelisme
NR

A ghostly image classily handling a whole fish with a fork and an empty knife speaks well enough to the ethereal and sophisticated, yet playfully eerie syntax within Parallelisme's world. A world that feels constantly at the cusp of the otherworldly, but one that makes no promises. Seriously ingenious, and inescapably fun.

First of October - One Week
NR

The most charismatic bunch of people are back to complete a cycle of what's the funnest and most challenging release of each year since 2018, and gut reaction makes want to say that this is their best! There's an obvious drop in recording quality by doing this in a Guitar Center instead of, you know, an actual studio (praised be Rob Ruccia), yet it's a setting that creates this particular offset to the overall sound and flow as exuberantly priced instruments meet a recording ... read more

Tame Impala - Deadbeat
NR

A far more substantial piece than what I've seen discussed.

Subtly fluctuating and unraveling in a state of limbo. Redundancy and ardency collide in both contrast and coexistence, as Kevin takes a redefining step in becoming a worthy father. A thoroughly engaging concept, but the same can't be said for the entirety of the album's sound. Can be quite magnetic and groovy, and it does do a good job at representing the themes, yet its own potential gets sapped as the attempt to mix ... read more

TURQUOISEDEATH - Guardian
NR

Not knowledgeable at all with the DnB scene, so I'm not sure how innovative this is or where its taking most of its inspirations from, but what I do know is that I had a great time letting myself sink into this transcendental and fun world. Especially with the imposing genre hybrid of a journey that is its half hour closer. Bringing it home with a stupendously gorgeous climax (bless you samlrc), and a little thematic nod at escapism. Perhaps a bit of a lopsided work, though still quite ... read more

Marina Sena - Coisas Naturais
NR

Stands out sonically with a fun and exciting personality. An eclectic collage of inspirations brought together through a sensual naturality and vulnerability, gorgeously expressed by Marina's vocal performance and an absorbing production. Slightly repetitive with some ideas not fully supplemented or outright not good, but still mostly enjoyable.

DESTIN CONRAD - wHIMSY
NR

Incredible seductive charm. Soft and passionate, and so fucking contagious.

I also need me a lonely detective.

Bohren & Der Club of Gore - Sunset Mission
NR

My mom, drained and just home from work, said this was extremely calming. This immaculately numbing ambiance needs no bigger validation than that for me. Great stuff.
