As Cobrah’s debut album, Torn delivers a cohesive dark-pop soundscape driven by dense production and heavy bass. Standout moments like the title track Torn captivated me with its interesting production, though much of the album stays in decent but familiar territory. While it doesn’t leave a major lasting impression, Torn remains an enjoyable listen overall.
Heavy Serenade showcases moments of interesting production that help set NMIXX apart from much of the current K-pop landscape. While not every song resonated with me, the EP is overall a solid and well-executed project.
Wuthering Heights delivers a much darker and moodier atmosphere than what Charli XCX is normally known for, but she finds pockets of beautifully blended instrumentation and industrial textures throughout the project. Separating the soundtrack from the film itself (I haven't watched), the album does a great job balancing themes of yearning and unease.
“Chains of Love” and “Always Everywhere” stand out for how cinematic they feel. Both tracks lean heavily into ... read more
"Imaginal Disk" exceeded my already high expectations I had on this album going in. The maximalist synth-pop production is easily what takes the cake for me on this record. The layers of synths, beat switches, and psychedelic textures keep the record constantly feeling fresh and moving.
On first listen, I probably would have rated this somewhere in the 90 range because some moments felt a bit overbearing. However, with each additional listen, I’ve fallen more and more in love ... read more
“minor” showcases a more stripped-back bedroom pop sound that places a stronger emphasis on lyricism. Gracie’s deeply personal writing makes the project feel genuine and easy to connect with, but at times it comes across as underdeveloped and less sharp, like on the title track “minor.”
Aside from “I miss you, I’m sorry,” the production can feel a bit one-note, even for a bedroom pop record. While the minimalism helps maintain a cohesive mood, ... read more
Manufactured, dated, flat, and soulless slop. Calling this H&M music is an insult to H&M themselves. Katy seems desperate to reclaim her place in the pop world but not desperate enough to spend time/effort to craft catchy dance-pop songs.
KATTDO delivers some really well-executed production here, especially with the amount of detail in the synth layering. The disco-influenced tracks are the highlights for me, bringing a lively energy that carries a lot of the album. Comparing to Harry's past records, KATTDO also shows a lot of ambition in its compositions.
I love when tracks start with a simple progression and gradually layer synths until the final bridge, creating that feeling of release and triumph. This happens a lot ... read more
"locket" abandons the electro/psychedelic direction that Madison was seemingly crafting with the singles "15 MINUTES/make you mine" leading up to the album. Instead, locket is an album crafted with safe decisions, leaning into an atmospheric, moody alt-pop sound.
The standouts for me on this album are the dance-pop bangers "yes baby" and "make you mine". There are solid ideas in songs such as "bittersweet" and "bad enough" that do a ... read more
