I am surprised at how much people hated this album. I think it's one of the most interesting things I've listened to this year. Damn, is it just me or there's some Elvis Costello vibes here?
I feel like a stripped-down version of this album would be a lot better. If Rod had relied more on the acoustic side instead of the electronic stuff, the album would be much more enjoyable.
Some futile lyrics with the addition of decent enough arrangements. I would have liked it if I was 14. Since I'm not, I'll probably forget about this album by next week.
I am still trying to understand the hate here. As far as I know, Bon Jovi is the first major artist/band to touch on subjects such as George Floyd and the riots the took place in America this year in an album. It goes from political to gospel, and touches every possible corner. Although some of the lyrics sound really cringe, the overall setting is decent, with Jon sounding good as always. Maybe some people are still stuck in the 80s.
Compilation live albums are tricky to rate. It's even harder when they're filled with hits as powerful as the ones here.
Is it unfair to rate an album that selects the best performances from different concerts when compared to other that do it all in a single shot? Maybe it is, but the performances here are so good and so well put together that it sounds just like you are there, listening to them, live and in person, and that's exactly the kind of atmosphere a live album must bring.
