Nearly nails everything it has going for it. The sounds on here are so inspired, and they don't ever feel derivative. The first half of the album especially, everything through 101 is bop after bop. There is a slight lull, but Kim sticks the landing as Freak It stands out as one of the best tracks and one hell of a closer. 2026 is the year of electronic music, of alternative pop girls, and slut-pop.
I wanted to love this album, but I fear I only like it... Tons of bops, but not many that stick out. Everything kinda blends together into one conglomerated synthpop song by the end...
I had a conversation with my coworker about this album before it came out. She goes, "I hope it is as good as the first one," we saw each other a week later and I said, "it was like the first album but diet." I fear this album was just fine. There isn't anything inherently wrong with it other than that it doesn't feel like it goes far enough, or really anywhere.
Like a modern day spagetti western fronted by a rhinestoned cowgirl, Kacey delivers with her usual cinematic lyrical abilities. I will always love what Kacey puts out, and while this isn't to the heights of Golden Hour, Kacey delivers with a maturation to a more melancholic, and weathered by the world voice.
I love Wishbone. But just rating the 5 new songs, I am about a 3/5 on them. Love The Best, added to my playlist immediately, Conan Gray banger. Do I Dare was not my fav, it didn't feel like anything but repetitive. House that always rains is a nice story song, but I didn't really connect with the sound. Door is alright, but Caroline Polachek did it better so... and finally, Moths is beautiful. The Best and Moths are the only ones I will be returning to probably.
