Through an extremely developed and futuristic concept, Janelle Monae released one of the first incredible albums of this decade in her 2nd commercial release. Her funky production and silky, comforting voice make for a brilliant take on neo-soul, and inspired many artists after her to use these styles. She also adds in touches of hip hop, jazz, and some assembled choirs to blur the lines between distinct genres and make something that Monae can call her own.
