Big Pun - Capital Punishment
100

This is Big Pun's debut LP, Capital Punishment. Capital Punishment is one of the greatest hip-hop debuts of all time as it really is a dense and fiery showcase of Pun's elite lyricism, cultural pride, and great storytelling. Pun's ability to balance his masterful technical abilities with his street charisma and the hooks that would appear to mainstream audiences that really make this album stand tall for me even all these decades later.

Intro is a nice opening that sets the ... read more

A$AP Rocky - Don't Be Dumb

This is A$AP Rocky's fourth album, Don't Be Dumb. After an 8 year wait, A$AP Rocky finally releases his new album that, to be honest, I did enjoy many parts of this album. There are a lot of standouts here for me such as PUNK ROCKY and STAY HERE 4 LIFE which are my personal favourites off this project as it shows Rocky trying to experiment with his style and it really did work as well as there still some of that Rocky we all know and love but I see a lot of what was on his album, ... read more

Danny Brown - Old

This is Danny Brown's sophomore LP, Old. Old has a pretty strong start with The Return and a nice Freddie Gibbs feature and it definitely braces you for the next songs to come and while I do admire Danny's experimentation on this project, sometimes it just doesn't land well with me like some electronic elements on here like I wasn't too much of a fan of the last half of this project even though the first half was actually pretty good. Overall, this is still a decent album ... read more

Big L - Harlem's Finest: Return Of The King

This is Big L's third LP, Harlem's Finest: Return of The King. This is definitely my favourite Big L album so far as it really is a great continuation of what made him stand out in the hip-hop scene with his iconic lyricism, charisma and that Harlem sound that makes every bar really hit. While it is a posthumous release, the production still stays relatively true to Big L's sound with some gritty boom-bap however with some of that underground polish.

Compared to Lifestylez & ... read more

Big L - The Big Picture
84

This is Big L's sophomore LP, The Big Picture. This builds on what made Lifestylez ov da Poor & Dangerous great with Big L's flow and slick delivery still being on here. His voice remains as commanding as it always was and the production here actually steps up this time with some harder and polished beats.

While the production has improved, the lyricism doesn't feel as lyrically dense or sharp as it was on his previous record. A few tracks on here don't quite match the ... read more

Big L - Lifestylez ov da Poor & Dangerous

This is Big L's debut LP, Lifestylez ov da Poor & Dangerous. This album is a showcase of why Big L will be remembered as such as sharp lyricist from his time with some slick, confident and instantly recognisable charisma and precision in every single track. The beats on here are pretty solid and it fits that nice gritty 90s New York sound that provided a rawness to let his storytelling and punchlines shine through.

I really liked tracks like No Endz, No Skinz and Put It On that really ... read more
