Album starts off strong then devolves into a repetitive mess in the middle before finding itself in the end, though barely. Hell Hill (the track) really saved the album, imo.
This is the only project of elita’s I’ve actually enjoyed despite the lows. I appreciate the obvious love that went into the album and think it’s a solid debut.
A song incredible sandwiched between other songs on an album, but holds very little on its own. Has all the elements of a melodrama tribute minus the oomf..,the song goes nowhere. One note. No crescendo or climax. The buildup before the last chorus is a mole hill you wish was a mountain.
Don’t get me wrong, it’s enjoyable and the production is nice, airy, but there is nothing about it that we haven’t heard from lorde already.
removing bella greatly improves the listening experience…sorry to the fan that song is about!
I was introduced to Coltrane via the Priscilla soundtrack as it features Going Home. Eventually, I found myself seeking Lord of Lords and fell in love. Incredible talent.
There’s something missing from a lot of the tracks resulting in chunks of the album sounding like one continuous song.
For a debut album, I quite liked it and feel she’s honing in on what her sound should be. The typical indie pop sound doesn’t do any favors, but the record shines during moments of avant garde, kate bush-esque production. Love the way she plays with her voice.
