Holy holy holy fuck. This album is perfect for falling asleep to. I’m a huge fan of slower, ambient, dreamy music, and Ágætis byrjun is just that. I had seen people describing this as “disney” music, and I honestly don’t hear it at all? The main vocals are unearth like and so soothing to the brain, it genuinely feels like a treat getting to listen to this record. The soundscape is spectacular as well, and it’s so calming and nostalgic, I haven’t ... read more
…Like Clockwork is truly a masterpiece of a record. The Queens of the Stone Age are one of the best current alt rock bands. They’re always so strong in each and every one of their songs, and Like Clockwork is no different. It’s vulnerable, raw, and real, something that seems so unusual to find on a rock album now. I Appear Missing is one of the most beautiful songs written, with Joshua Homme opening up and truly demonstrating his talent vocally and as a lyricist. This album ... read more
I really love everything about this album, the vibes are truly unmatched on this record. There is no “bad” song in this album. Devon’s use of psychedelic pop creates this lustrous feeling to each song, with a heavy topic on this album being lust. He is also such an incredible lyricist, I’d put him around the same level as Earl Sweatshirt with how vocal he is on every emotion he’s feeling, whether that be lust or depression. This album is a fever dream ... read more
Every track on World Is Yours is perfect. There is no bloat in this album, with each track being spectacularly killer and hardcore. The fucking instrumentals on this record are some of the best I have ever heard. This band is so intertwined that they sound like one perfectly in-tuned instrument. Japanese rock in general is such an incredible genre, and MASS OF THE FERMENTING DREGS has always been a standout of mine in the scene. Natsuko Miyamoto is also such a beautiful vocalist; her voice is ... read more
Jane Remover glaze from me, as always. This album is incredibly unique and still stands against the test of time even five years later. Frailty is the coming of age album that embodies not only the teenage experience of this era, but also the trans experience, knowing something is wrong with you, and that you’ll truly never feel included no matter where you are. As heartbreaking as the message is, it’s a topic many can relate with, especially in times like now. Every song on this is ... read more
omg jane’s head is rollingggggg! love them
A friend of mine has been asking me to listen to this album, and I'm pleasantly surprised. The sound captured on this album reminds me of an old Disney VHS tape, where Tinkerbell would come to your TV and present the movie you're about to watch with a grin on her face. Very nostalgic. The songs on this album are very dream-like, with a common theme of space and a future beyond the present. This makes sense due to Laika, the first dog in space, being an inspiration to this album, which ... read more
I was honestly so surprised by this album. HALO is a classic electro-pop album with all the fun that makes me fond of this genre. Tiffany is clearly enjoying herself throughout the album. The lyrics are extremely well written and actually make sense in the whole context of the album. The production on this record is actual ear-candy, with the soundscape being the highlight of the album. I’m super glad I listened. Also, I don’t see 2hollis at all. 😭
Update: I’ve only found ... read more
I personally really enjoy the indietronica direction Bassvictim has been taking. On Forever, the sound is consistent and reminds me of a fever dream, or the few minutes leading up to the best nap of your life. On some songs, the sound is very in-your-face, such as "Grass Is Greener," where Maria's vocals tell a story about the pessimistic ways people view life. This entire record sounds like a love letter to the chance of existence and the promising future Bassvictim has. ... read more
Revengeseekerz does rage right. Every single track offers something special to this album; the combination of the rage style beats and hyper pop-inspired glitch pauses really works effortlessly to keep this sound fresh and unique despite the growing fanbase this type of music has started making. Lyrically, this album is also a stand-out on the scene, and Jane shows the lyrical talent she's presented on her previous albums: Frailty and Census Designated. Lines like, "Think God became a ... read more
Hornet Disaster was an album I had to revisit a lot for me to get all my thoughts together, but I think I've finally got it. This album's runtime for many is redundant, but I personally believe only two tracks are really dragging the album down: Chopland Sudans and Heaven Smile, and while some may argue that other songs are bulky or too much, I think they really make up the whole record. Songs like Blood Online, Green Tea Seaweed Sea, Angel, and Tiara really make up for the ... read more
re:wired has to be one of my favorite records I've had the pleasure of listening to this year. The sound is nothing short of perfect, with each background instrumental working to create a feeling of nostalgia. kuru blends digicore and cloud rap, drawing on the best elements of both genres to create this album. The lyrics on re:wired are also insane, with many of them being very self-deprecating yet relatable, especially coming from the mind of a then 19-year-old. Lyrics like, ... read more
I was pushing this album off for quite a while, and I'm really upset I did. This album by Ecco2k is extremely well-produced, and his vocals are heavenly, drawing you into it like a siren waning for your attention. This record has a short run track, and the time is stellar and fulfills every point it has to. Calcium is a stellar track on this project, and I love Ecco2k's use of noise, which goes from loud to quiet, with the transitions feeling easy and casual, making this album really ... read more
The New Sound is perhaps the loudest music ever to sound. All the instrumentals on this record are similar to being on an acid trip (which I wouldn't recommend while listening to this album). Geordie Greep's solo debut is a magical project built on these narrative-driven stories of desperation and facade, with many of the "characters" on this record illustrating these glamorous lives that, behind the scenes, don't seem as glamorous as they make them out to be. The album ... read more
I Love My Computer is an album I was super excited to delve into when I first learned about it. I had heard nothing but good things about the record, as well as Nina’s talent and ear for music. I Love My Computer is amazingly produced, and I don’t think it’s talked about enough. Each melody is completely original and transitions perfectly into the next song, with my favorite transition being between iPod Touch and Fuck My Computer. I also really enjoy the energy of each song, ... read more
