(Discog dive 5/50, albums listened by artist 1/2)
Sadly this is a short discography but i decided to give him a listen because of a couple songs i heard him from. Drake, Kendrick and ect. I love his voice it's soothing and somber. Also a friend of mine really liked "Lahai" and told me to give him a try, so yeah
First off i wanna say that the production is beautiful. Its not really special or AMAZING, especially the beginning. I personally prefer the latter part of this album.
"Reverse Faults" is a fucking 10/10 song aalll the way to the end. From this loopy synthy sound to Sampha's impeccable vocal performance! The production gives of a edm kinda vibe. Maybe something like Porter Robinson but more experimental? The song that follows which is "Under" is even better than the last one. It's catchy, it's better sounding, more interesting lyrics.
"Timmy's Prayer" is a bit of a miss but after it things pick up once again. Speaking about misses, i saw that "(No one knows me) like the piano" is the most popular song here. Tbh i think its the most uninteresting. It's just a weak piano ballad in my eyes i mean it might take me a couple more listens but i dont find anything interesting a about that song.
"Blood on Me" is such a powerhouse of a song. I like how when i focus on the production i can imagine a rainy day roaming around a forest. And at the same time Sampha is just there giving his all vocally. And when the chorus kicks in. Man.
Don't really know what else to say i mean the record is pretty straightforward full with beautiful songs and a couple (somewhat) uninteresting duds. Overall a great project!
