I lowkey grew out of "just friends" by potsu but I can't deny the grip that this album had on me in 2021.

I didn't expect to get hooked on a game soundtrack like this, but here we are!
Hollow Knight's soundtrack by Christopher Larkin is a super emotional and atmospheric work of art with amazing melodies in the orchestral, piano, and ambient arrangements. Each song holds their own and captures the dynamic feelings of battle, exploration, and peace, even outside the game.

Like the clouds never stay
Moving away
The sunlight coming into
That's the way it goes
No one else could be you
We're different
That is why we're beautiful
One world, many stories
The production is extremely pretty on this soundtrack. With modern classical and jazz influences.
Clarinet sound is really pretty on this album, respect as a 8 year long clarinet player. ^-^

There will never be another Jane Remover. Holy.
This is a LOUD and POWERFUL album. Blending many styles of rage to hardstyle.
The way Jane is able to make such dance bangers like Psychoboost while making some emotional songs like Dark night castle is just a fraction of the genre-bending production on this album.
The samples like the Fortnite marking sound on Fadeoutz to sonic.exe on Dark night castle made me die laughing yet Jane manages to turn them into some crazy songs.

I listened to To Pimp a Butterfly for the first time fully in April 2024, when I was coming home from a jazz performance.
The way TPAB is able to tackle complex themes such as race, identity, systemic oppression, and personal struggle, all while on a narrative journey exploring Kendrick's transformation from a caterpillar (a young Kendrick deluded by money) to a butterfly (an established musician with a voice in conscious art), and all while managing to connect each song together with a ... read more
FANDOM delves into themes of obsessive fandom & parasocial relationships in a direct & brutally honest manner. Sometimes even dissing their fanbase.
Watch What Happens Next has the lyrics:
"You don't love me the same
It's such a fucking shame
I don't deserve as much
As all your pop faves
You wanna hear my art
But only on your terms."
I lowkey admire them calling out topics like this, because in songs like War Crimes they sing lyrics like "My death will be ... read more
trying became cool again.
I first full listened to The Rise and Fall of a Midwest Princess on 8/11/24. This was a weird time for me as I was on vacation and . Super depressed LOL. But to cheer up, I decided to give some albums I haven't listened to in full a try. This was one of them.
.
Goodness the themes on this album are talked about so well. Casual is an insanely great example of this, with Chappell giving a story about a one-sided situationship with such frustration in her lyrics ... read more
Worlds is beautiful virtual escapism.
"We'll see creation come undone."
"I will surround you and give life to a world."
"That's our own."
Worlds has influenced the way of so many producers and so many creators (especially meme creators, s/o SilvaGunner who introduced me to this album in the first place) and it’s no wonder why with how beautiful this album is. This album has a few weaker tracks but damn the highs on this album are so good. I ... read more
Romance is my first time listening to Fontaines D.C., and this was a really enjoyable listen!!
I normally don't listen to Indie Rock often but hearing this album was really sweet.
The singer, Grian Chatten, has some neat vocals. I love his accent!! Sometimes, the production doesn't let him truly shine. (Motorcycle Boy is a good example, some production just plateaus and I just wish there was more.)
The soundscapes of some of these songs are super pretty. Desire takes me on a ... read more
slop. incredibly inorganic.
“WOMAN’S WORLD” sounds. super inauthentic. Like I can give points for the theme of empowering/uplifting women but if anything Katy does not sound authentic/passionate and the music video makes it seem like she's mocking rather than empowering cause of the male gaze in it..
"GIMME GIMME (feat. 21 Savage)", "GORGEOUS (feat. Kim Petras)", and "IM HIS, HES MINE (feat. Doechii)" remind me of that era when Kendrick was ... read more
I CAN'T FUCKING SING!!!
The Weeknd is back with another amazing album. It drags a bit near the middle/middle end but the production is so heavenly.
Honestly, this album could've left off Timeless/São Paulo they are definitely more radio singles and do not fit on the album at ALL.
The hidden features on this album are. Ok. Lana's was the only one that left an impact on me.
The Weeknd does a goated job of song transitions again!!!!!!

STOKELEY homes a few of Ski Mask The Slump God's best tracks, but simultaneously homes some of his most stale tracks as well.
I used to jam this album a lot when I was younger. It's my favorite Ski album.
But man I've lost touch with this album. I still appreciate songs like Faucet Failure but goodness now that my ear is more trained, I realize songs like LA LA & U and I have some horrible melodies/production..

One of my favorite Kill Bill: The Rapper projects, and arguably his best.
I first started listening to Bill because of his collab album New Moon with Rav. I initially listened to the most popular songs off this album in 2021 like About Last Night..., Backwoods, and Dream Eater.
I eventually gave this mixtape a full spin in 2022.
Ramona is a nerdy, pretty, & trippy mixtape with tons of good lyricism.

Normally, with good albums that I listen to, I get one song that I really obsess with while the other songs get overshadowed by the song I obsess over.
This album is one of the only albums I feel like I've obsessed over *entirely.*
Wow. Wowowowowow. This album is gorgeous in production and vocals and sound and EVERYTHING WOWWWWW. Listening to this album on my first experience felt like a dreamy fantasy. It's so beautiful, magical, and makes me FLOAT.

SCRAPYARD, despite being full of "scraps", is a beautiful diverse mixtape with insanely stunning production.
This album has quickly become one of my most streamed albums of 2024, clocking in at 2761 scrobbles.. 😭😭
Quadeca's strategy of dropping songs in small EPs before the full album released really built my excitement, and when the full project finally came out, I was blown away by how together the tracks felt, despite the mix of genres and styles.

Really short, yet really fun listen!! I do admit it's kinda disappointing for this to go from a long project to only a 6 track EP, but I can simultaneously understand why with clearance issues.
search & destroy and do ya? are amazing singles. throw it up is a beautifully produced song. For the rest of the songs, while they aren't my favorites, I also can't say bad things about them.
