The release was fine, nothing groundbreaking and since the last thing I've heard from him was Miami Virtual, having no Future Funk and barely any Jazz or Vaporwave elements felt a bit off. It feels way more like something you'd find in a Lo-Fi playlist, which is not meant as a compliment. The song titles are a bit jarring and I hope that he's doing fine as a person, but I do not see how he conveys his feelings through the music. It's the most whatever thing I've ... read more
Original rating: 40
It took me three years and a lot of understanding to realize that maybe this isn't so bad. Known as the start of the Vaporwave genre, this album is still the genre in its infancy, but it's still very charming for what it is. The chopped and slowed sound was a landmark feature that has been lost in translation over the 15 years that this genre has existed now, so hearing it here is a blast from the past. The huge sampling work on this album is mesmerizing and while ... read more
Your last vacation by boat was a dud, so you decide to switch it up.
You book a tour through The Darién Gap, one of the deadliest rainforests in the world.
Your tour guide can sense that you are a bit frightened when arriving at your starting location, but he already knows how to calm you down: "Listen to this", he says. "It shows you the beauty of the place your visiting in music form." And before you know it, you travelled through the 100 kilometer long gap with no ... read more
Short and sweet vaporwave album inspired by the music that would play in teletext menus back in the 90s.
Now, I didn't grow up during that time, when I was a kid, teletext was already terribly outdated with nothing going on in it, but I can still admire this album for sticking to the aesthetic, which people really do resonate with. Some songs are sadly a bit too short with them abruptly ending, which does really create that sense of flicking through different channels though, so I'd ... read more
Wait what this is made by HKE??
Okay so, it seems to me that a lot of people are here because of the name, Floral Shoppe 2. From what I was able to gather, the name was literally just chosen to piss as many people off as possible, as the original name was supposed to be ▣世界から解放され▣ 2 [Freed From the World 2], because this album is supposed to be some sort of response to that.
I wouldn't really call this better, the br'i'ish guy one every track absolutely ... read more
I don't really understand why I thought it was necessary to check this release out, 14 years after being released. I guess the discourse around this album of some calling it the worst vaporwave release ever intrigued me.
Most of this album feels like you kept skimming through a youtube video with your numpad in a worthless effort to make your own songs. Or as if you took the skits of a MF DOOM album, translated them into Japanese, put them onto a CD and then scratched the hell out of ... read more
We are back on my seemingly endless journey through desert sand feels warm at night's discography.
This album appealed to me because of its cover art, it felt very welcoming, which is a feeling that the music itself perfectly managed to capture.
Whilst I was reading the final chapters of The Great Gatsby, this album managed to lure me in with its short and sweet songs, going by in a flash.
鳥類, 獅子 and 天国 were the main standouts for me, even though the last track was a very ... read more
A bit iffy, it could've been executed better and I think Keef's singing was a bit weird
This is the reason I have such high standards for this genre. Just Close Your Eyes & Listen is one of my most liked songs in general and it's the poster child for what Atmospheric Drum and Bass should be. Phenomenal single, wish they released more.
Also, I don't care how obscure it may be, please repress the vinyl for it, I desperately want it but I simply can't spend a hundred bucks on it :c
physically unskipable album title
I really hope that this guy gets his deserved recognition this year, the vibes are just immaculate
You're on a boat, taking in the vast ocean and its soft waves. Two guys come up to you and introduce themselves as Blu Mar Ten. They ask you whether or not you might want to listen to their music. As this voyage has been quite boring so far, you agree to the offer. What follows next is a nocturnal and ethereal soundscape, which fully transcends you into another world. They seem to notice that you enjoy what you're listening to and offer you something to smoke. Eager to furthermore ... read more
hehehe tf2 looking guy on the cover
We are back with more Drum and Bass!
PFM is a name I've known for quite some time now, for over a year now already. I sadly was not that thrilled by this album though, here's why.
The first track was absolutely amazing, I can't lie. "Wash Over Me" houses a great flute melody which perfectly fits with the beat and everything surrounding it.
"The Western" is usually a track which I like a lot, this Mikes Ricochet Mix sadly ... read more
Listening to every album in the "producer" series, 01/08.
First of all, why am I doing this?
Drum and Bass has been a genre that fascinated
me for a long time, around a year or so already and while flicking through various playlists, I oftentimes saw album covers with the same art-style. Only a few days ago I realized that what I was looking at was a series of albums from different artists, which compile some of their works together. As I always wanted to find a reason to delve ... read more
This feels like some sort of weird anomaly, these songs feel exactly like how I remember them, even though they are not the same in the slightest.
Now, I really can't tell anymore if most of these songs are just remixes of the OG soundtrack, probably not as some of those go extremely hard and I gotta say that the reverb and stereo effects are on point.
I went from almost giving this a 5 to being a bit more fair to it as it's quite enjoyable and IF these are original songs, then ... read more
This album was mentioned in the Vaporwave movie (which is free on youtube, you should definitely watch it if you've got the time) as a cornerstone of the scene, so I almost felt obligated to check it out.
I never really realized how Future Funk has its roots in the Vaporwave scene, until this album showed it to me. This album is way more groovy than a lot of other stuff out of the Vaporwave genre, with Jazz/Funk elements being omnipresent throughout. This also means that somehow the more ... read more
Expect the rating to change a lot over time, as I've just finished listening to the whole thing.
Started on the 28th of April. This will be a long one, so strap in folks.
1. 清脆的山区水:
With its reverberating cymbals recreating the sound of flowing water and the sporadically melody carrying its own atmosphere, the first track of this compilation starts things off strong.
(April 29th)
2. 金的棕色:
This track is actually nuts: The melody starts off being very subdued and as if ... read more
What is even happening
I am extremely hyped for the album, I hope it'll stay as consistent as these two singles
Going back, this is one weird album from desert sand feels warm at night.
Released in 2018, this release resembles more what you might find in actual Vaporwave or Snyth Funk than actual Slushwave, at least regarding track lengths and sample usage.
In general, the album is more uptempo and has a rather lively feel to it, but it also blends in with a lot of other releases and does not have much going for it.
"fidelity" is a track which stuck in my mind, as it felt really fun with its ... read more
