Yung Lean and Bladee create a pale world in their collaborative debut, “Psykos”. For better and for worse, Bladee’s production is radiant on this one, with both voices contrasting very well. This is what I wanted, but I did not realize this would leave us with such a monotone record.
“Coda” is a fun introduction and may actually be the most intriguing part of the record. The best spoken word track this year so far. That being said, it’s confusing why it was included on the record, as it barely makes sense sonically with the rest of “Psykos.” “Enemy” and “Still” are two standouts that spell out the rest of the tracklist, but that’s it. I would have liked more experimentation with the sounds of punk and cloud rap. While completely inoffensive, I feel like that is my issue with it.
