a band releasing an album as if they were an up-and-coming rapper from 2015, is a complete and utter embarrassment
Yung Lean and Bladee create a pale world in their collaborative debut, “Psykos”. For better and for worse, Bladee’s production is radiant on this one, with both voices contrasting very well. This is what I wanted, but I did not realize this would leave us with such a monotone record.
“Coda” is a fun introduction and may actually be the most intriguing part of the record. The best spoken word track this year so far. That being said, it’s confusing why it was ... read more
Welcome to this two part series called “random underground music a ketamine addict recommended to me so i could feel something”— i guess.
Rusty by Rodan was the album given to me when I said I like Slint. You can always count on bum music critics to give you obscure, dusty records that you never needed to listen to in the first place. That goes for most of rusty as it happens to be a compilation of dusty, This Heat-esque tracks.
“Bible Silver Corner” is a dull ... read more

Well Radiohead brought me back.
Radiohead deserves absolutely zero introduction, especially with the impressive reputation they have built amongst critics and their behemoth fanbase alike. Members, Thom (pronounced “tom”) Yorke, and Jonny Greenwood have stayed consistent to their second band “The Smile” by releasing its sophomore project “Wall of Eyes.” After their first project, “A Light for Attracting Attention,” explored various ... read more

Andre 3000 released an avant-garde jazz record.
WHAT.
I am writing this preemptively to the release of the record to manage my excitement as I intend this review to be quite large. While not as notorious as his pen game, the OutKast star is known for his spiritual and artistic endeavors, such as sketching and flute performance across the globe. That is to say, his debut record “New Blue Sun” has zero rapping, or vocals for that matter. I found this to be a ... read more
PERFECT REVIEW (4) - Lift Your Skinny Fists Like Antennas to Heaven
I was not a Godspeed believer originally. Until one day, I was sitting outside a cabin in Blue Ridge, Georgia, far from home. I was enjoying the foreign weather while watching deer skip across my lawn and at the moment, it just felt necessary to put an ambient song on to contemplate. The Dead Flag Blues is what willowed in the winds that evening. I will never forget that day because it is what inspired me to purchase this ... read more
PERFECT REVIEW (2) - The Black Saint And The Sinner Lady
I have listened to The Black Saint and The Sinner Lady about six times, not considering single listens, and can say certainly there is nothing wrong with what I listened to. That being said, I have had no clue how to speak about it, until now. While it may be the most uneducated classical jazz review, it is done in the essence of appreciation.
“Track A- Solo Dancer” was my introduction into avant-garde jazz. It is eerie with ... read more

You see the rating.
This is going to be an unorthodox review, and I would like to start it by saying that I’m not easy. I do not have a stick up my butt; I have listened to enough music to understand what good quality is. I value perfection. And perfection by no means is easy to achieve.
So why Lahai by Sampha?
Let’s begin from square one. “Stereo Colour Cloud (Shaman’s Dream)” is an intro most artists would release as a single because it is just ... read more

If 2023 has been anything, it has been the year for your dad’s favorite band resurgence. The Rolling Stones, Queens of The Stone Age, The Zombies, Slowdive—now Blink-182. Hits and misses among the list, I couldn’t not help but be intrigued by the new Blink-182 release. Now, I have not listened to much of the group’s deeper discography, but I do know the potential this band has to be a gratifying experience. Therefore, we ... read more

We all have our deck of cards for how each year will musically play out. If you are like me, what religiously reappears in mine, my king of diamonds, is a culture-dividing Dababy album. After the release of his auditory opus “NO CONDOM” and really the entirety of Baby On Baby 2, I have expected nothing but pure genius from the Million Dollar Baby himself.
—are you laughing yet? Yea this new Dababy EP is Fantano-core not good. Like really, not good. ... read more

Let’s talk about motivation.
Dev, Monty, is motivated in intervals. At some points he is fatigued due to classes and work, and at other points he is willing to pump out a thousand word review on a piece of music he feels strongly of. If you can’t tell, I am talking in third person. I started writing reviews to keep track of my heavy intake of music. This is a fruitful process for me as it is healthy and helps me write better. So why stop? From now on though, I will ... read more

You know what time it is. Your girlfriend is ovulating which means a new Drake album just released.
To let the pussy out the bag, Drake has not been a critic’s best friend as of recent. It seems like ever since Views (2016), he has been objectively reducing in quality. His lead single of 2023, “Search and Rescue,” was so one-toned and horrendously mixed that the media originally speculated it was an AI-generated track. It gets to the point that you are ... read more

I am giddy to even start this review.
In spirit of his new album releasing tomorrow (yes this review is late), we will be looking back on Sufjan Stevens’ most groundbreaking record, Illinois. Forewarning that this review is very long because I am passionate about this one. Being named after the Prairie state, of course there are many references to the state’s community and culture, but this record also dives into themes of love, death, and faith. I have listened to ... read more

This is my first full Alice In Chains record. Just by looking at their catalog, I can really appreciate how all of Alice In Chains album covers match a warm tone. Jar of Flies in particular caught my eye; the perspective along with the red-green glow is brilliant. So as any curious mind would, I gave it a listen:
The introduction blew my mind, and is the majority of why I am writing this review. What separates Alice In Chains from Soundgarden or Nirvana, to name a few alt-rock ... read more
