I was expecting this album to take more of a pop-like sound because of Washing Machine Heart, and while there was definitely a good amount of that, I was pleasantly surprised at how versatile it was sonically. Mitski is incorporating new ideas as well as old ones into a great blend that also offers a new side of maturity. While I'm obviously aware that this album was released after Puberty 2, I think the way she expresses herself here FEELS older, and is also referenced in the lyrics. But ... read more
I have nothing but great things to say about this album. Every time another song would come on, all I could think was "Wow, this is GOOD". From fan favorites like "I Bet On Losing Dogs" to lesser knowns like "My Body's Made of Crushed Little Stars", Mitski does not hold back on expression, lyrically or sonically. GET ME IN THE CLUB NOW!!!!!! But seriously, this is such a fun album and I'm glad to indulge in the Slayyyter hype. I'm really enjoying this era of electropop/dance pop. I did seem to get less excited about the songs by the second half, which seems to be a common theme, but they still weren't bad by any means. BEAT UP CHANEL$ is number one for me for SURE. Other favs: ...DANCE..., CRANK, UNKNOWN LOVERZ. Honorable Mention for the second half: WHAT IS IT LIKE, TO BE LIKED?
Hello I am now officially a Slaughter Beach, Dog fan. I think this is a really nice folk album with some really nice songs. I really enjoyed Phoenix and Gold and Green. The middle of the album does seem a bit forgettable but Acolyte makes up for it. There is something about that song that makes me want to burst into tears. It is so sweet that it's sad. Keep it up Slaughter Beach, Dog...I will be listening to more.
While there is nothing necessarily bad about this album, I don't think the sound is entirely my vibe. It was interesting to listen to at first but by the end once I got the jist I was not as hooked, simply because of my own lack of interest. The songs were all good, but none of them really stood out to me. I probably should listen to it again.
