This is how I like my contemporary R'n'B albums. Well composed, a mix between slow and uptempo, lyrics that backup the song theme. Great album!
The vocals feel very ''Talking Heads tribute act''-like, too forced to be like David Byrne. That's the thing that threw me off, as the instrumentals are actually really good. If it was lo-fi, that wouldn't have been a problem, but not in post-punk. Wasted opportunity here :(.
Dan Reynolds voice always makes the hairs on the back of my neck stand up. Still decided to give it a neutral listen, but this is just bad. I can already that most radio stations will be very happy with ''Giants'', ''It's Ok'' and ''My Life''. I already mute my speakers when ''Follow You'' comes on, 50 times a day. It's just like OneRepublic's ''Human''. Dull, AR developed and radio-safe with little to no depth.
