New York R&B artist’s full-length debut has a fun sense of exploration and play but gets tripped up by its cosmic pretensions.
Three Dimensions Deep is a poignantly instrospective journey through all the contemporary R&B trends with impressive ease.
Today, if we look at the pedestal of the female R&B movement (Alternative R&B / Comtemporary R&B / Neo-Soul) of the last 5 years, we are lucky to have a handful of talented artists: SZA, Solange, Lianne La Havas, Kali Uchis, Rina Sawayama, Remi Wolf, Erika De Casier or even L'Rain. I was thoroughly enjoying this. But it eventually felt like a really long listen. The songwriting quality is pretty consistent, even if it's not "deep" or whatever. But the production technique just sounds so fat and saturated.
I can see this gaining critical acclaim over the year. I myself might just stick with the singles. And that's ok.
A decent RnB release. Amber Mark's debut album is a solid one. An extensive tracklist which is rather consistent, however lacks in highlights. A formulaic RnB release befitting of a ''first-album'', showcasing a glaring potential for Amber Mark to become one of the main figures of contemporary RnB, excited to see how she progresses on her next projects.
