It's really hard for me to review this album, for now I just don't know what angle to take, so I'll just express what it does to me and what I see it as.

The whole Godspeed You thing is giving apocalyptic narrative which really tightly sits alongside the feeling(!) of apocalypse (music, boys, am I right). To me their apocalypse feels internal, personal, an apocalypse of a soul. Their narrations dig deep into me, make me open doors I'd never open.

When it comes to this particular album, oh boy. Something grand, significant and desperately hopeful turns into a leaping light of hope, the whole feeling of this slowly loses heaviness to the point where it is disturbing. Our wallets are still full of blood, remember?
And this conflict (which to me is still internal) seems to take place in the entirety of East Hastings and the resolution is making peace with yourself, but in the "let's agree to disagree" way. Yeah peace is here, but you won't go far with it man, it 'slike an annoying mosquito flying around.
The Providence part of the album is all about overcoming this pulled away conflict, making a bunch of leaps of faith, fully blasting through stuff trying to figure it out. But all of it eventually would be revolving around one fundamental question "Where are you going?". You don't get an answer and the result of all this struggles is total desolation. Ruins.
The finale is rebirth. But it's so messy, underwhelming and so so tragic it leaves you empty and fucked up.

This thing is so beautifully crafted all around, there's just too much to praise. I'll say it leaves me broken in a way that no other peace of media could ever do, it's such a wierd mix for me, yet so familiar. This is a showcase to why music is a crazily outstanding form art, capable of delivering this kind of emotions.

Love it. Hate it. It's beautiful and get's you to the core.
