Listening to an album everyday or I buy my friend a beer
Day #7
Trent Reznor is my god. My personal ear-pleaser. Also I thought "The Downward Spiral" was the only NIN's output in their well-produced-fun-industrial-rock era. I feel like "Pretty Hate Machine" is underproduced and too rough around the edges, while "The Fragile" is just not it somehow (I have only heard some tracks off of these albums, should I check them out?).
And then I heard "Broken". Not as heavily conceptual, much angrier, and almost as catchy as TDS. I love the mix of extreme dancability and rage it brings out to the table, doing it consistantly throughout. Trent has a gift, or rather a skill, of creating those eargasmic rhythms and melodic noises, which make his music so damn unique and boundary pushing, also they make the monkey in my brain go crazy.
The self-deprived themes, which are basically about him hating everyone, which makes him hate himself, are great. I personally enjoy the conceptual wrapping of this broad idea, introduced on TDS, but this album is going for the different thing - creating a loud banger, after a loud banger. And I love it.
