Part Of The Theory - Famished Mamoon
79

Discovered this metal band from Greece thanks to Steve OG's youtube channel.. Definitely something of a prog-metal vibe to the sound. Just wish they would release some more music!!

Killswitch Engage - This Consequence
70

Was a huge fan of this band in the early days with Howard Jones on vocals.. Haven't listened to much since Jessie Leach returned.. but this new album is fire.

Megadeth - Megadeth
70

It's a decent "thrash" metal album from veterans of the metal genre. There are some stand out tracks for me: Hey God! and Let there be Shred, also some very catchy lines in songs like Another Bad Day and I am War... Plus the Metallica cover bonus track is possibly my favourite version of that song.

Spock's Beard - The Archaeoptimist
72

A little late to this party.. I discovered the album in 2026 after listening to the new NMB single (hurt people).. A decent prog rock album that sadly does sound a little dated.. but that's no surprise given how long Spock's Beard have been going.

Royal Sorrow - Innerdeeps
65

Royal Sorrow were a new discovery to me in 2025. A decent prog-ish metal album, but can't touch some of the other albums I listened to in the year.

Dream Theater - Parasomnia
85

With Portnoy back in the fold, this album sounds a lot like DT of old. They absolutely smashed it.

Blackbriar - A Thousand Little Deaths
79

Coming off a Goth-Metal high listening to Lacuna Coil for a good portion of 2025, I discovered Blackbriar for the first time... just in time to catch singles like Fossilized Widow and A Last sigh of Bliss. My excitement for the album was very high, and I was not disappointed.

Lacuna Coil - Sleepless Empire
93

I'd honestly forgotten about this band, and haven't listened to anything in over a decade. Their brand new goth metal album is a dark and atmospheric banger that doesn't let up. I love their heavier sound with what sounds to me like down-tuned guitars. Cristina's vocals are still beautiful and haunting.. while Andrea is really pushing the harsh vocals.. and the contrast works so well.

Jethro Tull - Curious Ruminant
74

Been a long time fan of Jethro Tull.. mostly their earlier stuff especially Aqualung and Thick as a Brick... Pleased to say CR is an enjoyable Folk Prog Rock album.

Bloodywood - Nu Delhi
87

Brand new album from a recent discovery.. Bloodywood. Hits very hard, but also really catchy, and I love the inclusion of Indian instruments. Bekhauf still my favourite track though!

Alter Bridge - Alter Bridge
78

2026 in with a bang, with a brand new.. self-titled.. album by Alter Bridge.. which I've been listening to for a week.. it's really grown on me! An overall awesome sound, and some catchy hooks.

Karnivool - IN VERSES
92

I only discovered Karnivool in 2025 as a result of hearing the single Drone... every single dropped from the album was sensational and it only fuelled my excitement for this album... I was not disappointed when the album dropped.. it is phenomenal. Sets the bar very high for 2026 and is definitely a shoo-in for my AOTY.
