Ciśnienie - [angry noises]
83

Yep this is a Polish avant-garde experimental noise jazz-rock album if I've ever heard one!
Joking aside, a dystopian, brutal take on avant-garde rock with jazz elements. Completely instrumental, this record displays tremendous energy and emotional depth. The layers get deeper with each song and each listen, drawing from a wide range of inspiration such as free jazz, traditional folk music, noise rock and drone.

JADE - THAT'S SHOWBIZ BABY!

Great solo debut and a very solid pop album
Reminded me of: Lady Gaga, Charli xcx, Anitta, Jessie Ware, Lily Allen, Ariana Grande, FKA Twigs, Rina Sawayama

Ho99o9 - Tomorrow We Escape

Pure, raw energy
Reminded me of: BMTH, Denzel Curry, Bob Vylan

La Dispute - No One Was Driving the Car
81

Some very nice progressive tracks, great emotional moments, superb intense lyrics and raw energy, but mostly uneven towards the final third of the record. The melodies are often intricate and ambient, mostly gorgeous, though at times a bit unoriginal. The singing may benefit from more variety and nuance as well. Overall a very good experience.

Grandiose pop album

The Beths - Straight Line Was A Lie
82

Give some jangle pop, give me some country rock, give me a touch of dream pop and a dash of shoegaze. The type of bands I'll never get tired of. It's nostalgic, it's cathartic and it brings you back to better times. What's not to like?

Ghostface Killah - Supreme Clientele 2
72

Were it 1998, this would be an OK album. This kind of production and 90s humor skits just don't hit the same anymore. Still a great rapper, some great lyricism here and there but not enough to live up to the name.

Audrey Hobert - Who's the Clown?
79

Listening to a midweek party-going nepo baby singing about her first world problems honestly couldn't be more fun. This album is annoying and witty at the same time. Honestly, I shouldn't like it as much as I do, good job!
It also has a Taylor-like feel and the lyrical themes and writing style are very much similar. It is just better under every aspect than anything Taylor has put out since evermore. The production is a bit more indie rock-oriented, with a slight 90's to 2000s ... read more

Paul Weller - Find El Dorado
64

About one third of this is absolutely fantastic, musically and lyrically. The rest is some warmed-up, boring bag of songs. Paul still has it in him but I think this would absolutely benefit from being cut down by half, it's way too long.

The New Eves - The New Eve Is Rising
83

This is what being a feminist punk badass probably would have been like in the Middle Ages. Never thought I would enjoy being screamed at on medieval music that much.

Justin Bieber - SWAG

My lil bro you're not black and your voice is annoying, not to sound like a 2010 JB hater. Your singles sound nothing like Chris Brown and your interludes sound nothing like Frank Ocean. And the whole "you're feeling bad? Just smoke weed!" What are you 12?
Not all the music is horrendous, but you would think with his experience of the industry and his connections, he could come up with something better.

Isabella Lovestory - Vanity

Ryan Davis & The Roadhouse Band - New Threats From the Soul
78

Some of the best lyricism this year. Sharp, funny, clever take on the Americana genre. Not always convinced about the singing and the instrumentals are not very original though.
Reminded me of: Father John Misty, Big Thief, Nick Cave

Billie Marten - Dog Eared
82

Smooth, comforting and flawless singing and songwriting by Billie Marten.
Reminded me of: Laura Marling, Sharon Van Etten, Big Thief

Cleo Reed - Cuntry

MF Tomlinson - Die To Wake Up From a Dream
81

Great singer-songwriter album with chamber folk influences. Alternating folk songs and experimental pieces is what makes this project a timeless avant-garde gem.
Tobias Jesso Jr., David Byrne, Paul Weller, Morrissey, Nick Cave

TURQUOISEDEATH - Guardian
82

Early 2000s video game type beat but in a good way

Poor Creature - All Smiles Tonight
73

Like it quite a lot when it is moody and gothic, like it a bit less when it gets Damien Rice-ey

Reminded me of: Cranberries, Angel Olsen, Damien Rice, Mitski

Jessica Winter - My First Album
74

Big 90s Eurodance vibes on this one. Pleasant but far from groundbreaking. Nice potential though, if she can find her own identity she sure can go places

Reminded me of: Rina Sawayama, Magdalena Bay, Grimes, Madonna, Chappel Roan, Charli xcx
