This sounds like they summoned a cosmic entity in the damn studio with the power of mind bending alchemic elixir guitar fuckery.

Drone that spans desolate lands and aching devastation, stretched across the destruction, meets its maker. What ensues is something completely in it's own league of metal, noise, and composition. It is imposing, it is total, it is....evil??!?!🔥✍️✍️

In all seriousness though, this album is beyond anything I've heard before. Towering over all in its path like a goliath. In the opening track, "loose x red" is sluggish but the drone is genuinely impressive and immersive. It doesn't feel as long as it was either.

Then on "giddiness throne x evil wave form" your ears are pulverised with some of the most intense, sprawling guitars to ever be played. The song starts off with some amazing metal, collapses into drone, and comes out crawling from the mist ready to kick even more ass. Just when you think its done, it steps over a larger version of itself, mangled and mega. Instead of collapsing, it instead spirals into a final few sharp noises. The sound cascades into nothingness, and yet, you can't help but sense its presence throughout the rest of the album, stained in the moments it swells. It deadass sounds like they summoned something on this song 😭

On the 3rd track, "interference demon x the evilone which sobs" the guitars sound down right anguished. The build up is overwhelming, then slowly turns dissonant. To me, it captures that emotional feeling of before and after you cry. Which is evidently fitting considering its title. The drone on this is expertly done and probably the strongest on the album in that respect.

The last song on the album and my personal favorite l, "a bad a qu", I mean damn what a cool ass closer. Whatever meditative sound it begins with quickly spirals out of control. The guitars turn contorted and sorrowful. Its even more emotional than the song before it. Then the most jarring drums fade into the song along with some amazing vocals. The only vocals present on the entire record, and holy shit are they amazing! Right before the vocals fade back out, he makes a loud sound that blends right into the absolutely wretched guitar that comes back near the end. So fucking sick. I wish the moment lasted longer tbh.

What makes albums like these so special to me is the severity and mass of its sound. The album feels massive yet restrained which is a pretty hard thing to nail, however, Boris manages to be both meditative and devastating, balancing a kind of chaos only they would be able to convey. Its genuinely inspiring and special. Dronevil stands as one of those once in a lifetime moments in music, a milestone of talent and grit.
