Stop ruining your hit streak with useless, bad gospel albums. She doesn't need this, and a set of way better songs could've been recorded instead. Whether it was Pat Boone, Marty Robbins, or Ferlin Husky, they all fell into this gospel albums trap. Thankfully, Warwick continued with pop-soul.
Songs done to perfection. It's a big, big triumph for her, cementing her in music history.
She goes all around the town, swinging through these great pop-style songs. This is an amazing album with every song being charming and happy. None of her albums were hits, but every one offered something different and nice. "The Happiest Sound In Town" is one of them. She does do one popular standard here; "Rock-a-Bye Your Baby With a Dixie Melody" includes some of the strongest vocals here.
Another pop-soul album by Warwick spotlights her two big hits and features a selection of other fine songs. Even though "Up, Up and Away" is a particularly weak rendition of the 5th Dimension hit, she contrasts it with going into strong songs like "You're My World", "Where Would I Go", and "Let Me Be Lonely". "Let Me Be Lonely" is especially a nice song with great vocals and an orchestral arrangement. Overall, a commercial and critical ... read more
More of a bland album like its cover from Vinton here. But songs like "Careless", "You Own My Heart", and "Going Steady with a Heartache" carry a nice theme. The popular "Someday (You'll Want Me To Want You)" is done well here as well.
Just another album full of covers in an easy listening-pop style. This time it's Bobby Vinton singing the songs, "Baby I'm Yours", "I'll Never Fall In Love Again", "Leaving In a Jet Plane", and the title track. None stand out, but the album has some charmers like "I Will Follow You", a hit for Peggy March in 1963, and the "Baby Take Me In Your Arms", which is just a happy melody. He does the ballad "If I Ever I Would Leave ... read more
Mighty collection of standard tunes. Vocals are truly great here, with strong songs like "You're Gonna Hear From Me" being highlights.
Such a spotlight. He gives the songs a more relaxing theme, unlike other similar projects like Francis' ''Connie & Clyde''.
All the hot songs of the time done in a swinga-ding-ding style by the Maye girl. "Mame", "Step to the Rear", "and A Certain Girl" are highlights.
''Girl Singer'' is a quality and final major album by Marilyn Maye released in 1970. It featured modern hits like "I'll Never Fall In Love Again'' and ''Make Your Own Kind of Music". The latter is an especially nice cover. The second track, "The Children In the Street" is a slower ballad done to vocal perfection. "I Need You" is a charmer, and so goes for the rest of the songs. A forgotten, but worthy album.
The full Italian standards on this hit Vale LP. They do drag out by the end, but it's a nice collection nonetheless.
Horrifying cover photo, but the orchestral arrangements are nice. Lots of standards collected here for Sinatra, but not his best.
This chartbuster LP features a nice collection of songs done well by vocalist Humperdinck. From the single "Les bicyclettes de Belsize" to the charmer "Marry Me" and an all-around great finale with "A Good Thing Going", it's one of my favorite albums of it. I listen to it both on vinyl and Spotify, but the vinyl version is probably better.
Very boring, very bad. But, oh well, these standards are my favorite music.
It's pretty great for a Williams LP. Features the great hit "Music to Watch Girls By", and other nice songs. His "Sunny" cover is the worst version of the song I've ever heard, but besides that everything is fine.
