I don’t even like to categorize this into the “mafioso rap” subgenre because it feels way more autobiographical than it does thematic.

One thing is for sure. Rick Ross has an ear for production, one of the best in the game, and it shows on this album. Rapping wise, Rozay has gotten much better since his debut. Subject matter wise, if you are running to a Rick Ross album expecting anything different than what he normally raps about, by now it’s your fault. Mastermind is a very well put together album.
Felt like a throwaway project after dropping Mastermind earlier in the year, but there’s a few standout tracks - Trap Luv, where Yo Gotti provides an exceptional verse, Elvis Presley Blvd, and Movin Bass - so tracks 7-9 is the best stretch of the album
The album I hoped his debut would’ve been. Gets stronger the deeper the album goes. Has some skips but the peaks outweigh the lows
