Bon Iver - SABLE, fABLE

While the reception was comparatively lukewarm when this came out, I found this album to be among Bon Iver's best, and it just proves him to be one of my personal favorite artists of all time. This project was initially released as an EP, with the first three tracks (excluding the random interlude) being very folk-leaning and sharing a similar sound palette to his first record, For Emma, Forever Ago. These 3 tracks are very solid, with the opener, "S P E Y S I D E", being ... read more

Wilco's debut, 1995's A.M., is a very interesting album. Jeff Tweedy still had a lot of strong country influence that was very prevalent on his side project, Uncle Tupelo, but here it's overall a very clunky album. It has some good highlights, such as I Must Be High, Too Far Apart, Box Full of Letters, and Should've Been In Love, just to name a few. The biggest highlights on this album are balanced by some quality songwriting, good performances, and just some loose country ... read more

CSH's "My Back Is Killing Me Baby" is a solid album and a great improvement over Will Toledo's slimy "1-4" records, where he was garnering a lot of attention. This album is SO incredibly lo-fi, but the songs are still there, and there are moments on the production side of this thing that are genuinely gorgeous and soul-crushing. My personal favorites on here are Happy News For Sadness and Strangers; those are both gorgeous and full-sounding tracks that showcase ... read more

Gorgeous in every sense. Explores the difficulties of finding love, connections, and happiness in a constantly changing world, over the most indescribably beautiful instrumentals and production I've ever heard. Natalie Mering's vocals add to the album's serenity as her voice almost glides over the music, with there being very little in the way of duds; even on this album's worst moments, they're still awe-inspiring and have a carnal pop appeal at the bare minimum. Even this album's interludes ... read more

Bon Iver - 22, A Million

I cannot express this album's importance to me, as it's one of the very few albums to have made me cry, and continue to do so with each listen. While Bon Iver's self-titled album in 2010 was somewhat of a departure from For Emma, Forever Ago with its addition of lush instrumentals and effects combined with its still acoustic-driven soundscape, 22, a Million is arguably even more of a left turn for Justin Vernon, with him embracing glitch pop and folktronica, creating a baffling and difficult to ... read more
