No I am Iceman? No poopypants? No KENDRICK IS MEAN!!!? No Venus? Drake, I believed you.. how could you..
The LAST thing I would expect Drake to do is drop 3 albums in one night, and while we all know Drake usually rushes his music, I was only expecting ICEMAN. I'll try my best to hold back my nerves and listen to the rest of the stuff he dropped just now, which will unfortunately most definitely be far on the bad side, meaning this is kind of the only memorable and actually enjoyable project he released today.
The last few days before the release of this album have had the internet going crazy, and I was personally very hyped too, expecting something which we haven't seen from Drake before, but it was pretty obvious we wouldn't get that, well, because, we all know him, his music and his personality. To be fair, it still had some pretty great songs, and it put some excitement in me for the meanwhile, but the rest of the tracklist really doesn't hold up.
Speaking of the tracklist, it's kind of a mess. On one part, especially the start, we have a pretty good way to start off the album and put some hype in the listener, but later on it just really goes downhill - the tracks were consistently weak, and while it ain't too hard to enjoy them, it's still a pretty bad run of tracks. At about the middle point we have a couple of good tracks, but after track 11 it just becomes very boring and I'd consider the ending (12-18) the worst point of the album. The overall product isn't great, and the execution is simply poor.
Drake's performance was eh, he always takes a very safe approach of trying to just reach out to the mainstream listeners, and of course, he does well with it - his music always performs well, but it usually doesn't appeal to critics and genuine music fans, because of his lyricism being overall pretty weak and his vocals being auto-tuned. The delivery ain't great, but there's some occassions when you can give props to it. His flow is smooth, but that's pretty much the only positive thing about his performance.
Obviously - like most Drake albums, the production remains the best point of the project. He collected quite a few great producers to make some fairly fun beats, but of course, he kind of messes up the enjoyability of the instrumentals with his performance, but if we don't talk about that, it's pretty easy to get through this album because of how lively the atmosphere is, though some tracks kind of drag on. Conductor Williams is likely my favorite producer which had an appearance here.
We have a couple features which commonly appear on his music, 21 and Future. Their verses were alright, but nothing too crazy, just casual.
That's pretty much it - a pretty boring album, likely dissapointing to most of his fans. It definitely didn't live up to the hype, only because we didn't really know what we were going to get.
One album of the 15th down, two more to go. I'm not excited, I'm just curious.
