Happy new year y'all!
Out of curiosity, I decided I'm going to listen to all of Kendrick's mixtapes because that's what real fans do, or don't, I don't really know. I guess I'll also put these projects into my discographies list.
I was actually surprised this was really easy to find on the internet, because the cover makes it look like there's only one copy of the mixtape in the entire world.
Who the hell could've thought this guy would make two albums that are considered top 10 in Hip Hop, and just some of the best albums in general.
He was sort of fucking around on some of these songs, and there being two stolen beats proves my point. When he joined Top Dawg, he started getting serious, but it seems like it still didn't work out for a few years.
17 year old Kendrick was onto something. To be fair, you gotta appreciate this mixtape, everything has a start, and it may not always be good, but it will develop and become TPAB.
It's great hearing more Kendrick music, but it's not the music I would put into a playlist. But like I said, a weak start shouldn't hurt.
Obviously, his writing at this time wasn't even close to the one he developed during the 2010s. Infact, it's much worse, the lyrics can get really bad through this mixtape, but not like in a crazy way, they're just really boring and nothing special. He probably didn't have many beats to choose from at this time, so obviously it only makes sense to steal some. He didn't even change the title of the original songs he stole the beats from.. It's like anyone was going to listen to this mixtape anyway. But the non-stolen beats were really bad too, can't say much more about the production apart from that.
This felt like the longest 39 minutes of my life. All of the songs went on for way too long for some reason. Maybe it's because it's such a boring experience. I don't know.
Not much material provided on this mixtape. He was 17 at the time, so I mean, he didn't try doing too much on here. I guess that's about it.
