Beyoncé - Lemonade

After something like a year of my friend Declan begging me to listen to a Beyoncé album, it finally happened. And while it wasn’t the most life-changing listen of all time, it certainly had some incredible moments. It was nice to hear some variety throughout the project, such as the distorted sound of “Don’t Hurt Yourself” and the country-influenced “Daddy Lessons,” with Beyoncé’s classic pop-R&B sound still being present. The production itself was quite forgettable, but it let her incredible voice shine through. I wanted to focus on what is, in my opinion, the standout track of the album: Freedom. When you see that Kendrick Lamar feature credit, it’s already quite exciting. But when you hear the song, you realize that Beyoncé matches Kendrick’s aggressive vocal style. The growl in both of their voices, matched with the powerful instrument choices creates a very memorable listen. Lemonade had some great moments, even though it felt poppy at times, but I’m sure I’ll be returning to the highlights from the project in the future.
