Imani comes out the gate swinging with a really good debut.
It's nothing crazy, but super enjoyable, with an amazing production and great performance.
If it wasn't clear enough with Vince's last album, it's clear the headspace he's in. Even though his last project was more of a sad cut, with uplifting bits. Crybaby is a plain and simple hate letters Talking about police brutality, racism and corruption.
Sonically it's amazing, a really cool new sound to Vince's discography. The only complaint is that it doesn't have much versatility in the production, as the sound is established well enough in the first ... read more
Clairo's first full length project is super consistent. Her singing reminds me of Sabrina Carpenter's debut album. It opens with some super personal lyrics, and as the project goes on, it develops into feelings of desire and love for someone. Although I like most of the songs, her singing is at times stale. She chooses one style and keeps it for the whole song, rarely switching it up.
The most interesting track is the last one, which is a two part song that serves as a great closing ... read more
In my opinion, this is the better of the two EP's. It has the vibes and sound of the last one, yet I feel Cole went in a more introspective and storytelling way.
Going back into J. Cole's discography it's crazy how much he has improved over the years. Truly Yours is a simple EP from Cole, with his laid back production and overall simple rapping style he had back then.
Though that also means he has those bad bars related to poop/fart/shit he used to use during that period. Nothing crazy overall.
Clairo finally experiments with more sounds. Even though there's still a lot to polish, I love the fact she's leaving her comfort zone.
Between this and her last EP "growing" it feels that Clairo has found her sound. The melodic and distant singing a companied by a single guitar.
I quite enjoyed this, it's not as bad as everyone is saying, yet it's nowhere near his recent projects.
It is experimental after all, but in which sense? Mainly in the form where you don't know what will he do in any song, you don't know if his gonna pull a crazy guitar riff, an angelic sample or a dubstep instrumental. The main problem with this project is that is 25 songs where he uses the same flow on almost all of them. Thankfully his production is polished enough where ... read more
Since there's no oficial tracklist, is hard to judge the album on what its contents are. I heard a version with 24 fucking songs, with a crazy lineup of features, that even tho sounded good, it was still a mix of demos, scrapes and leaks.
Chakras was top tier though.
Finally able to listen to a bigger project from Clairo.
It's something cute, yet hard to make out what is she singing about. There's still no mixing (or a tiny amount of) so you mainly rely on the vibe of her tone, which makes the songs feel kind of the same, with a bland feel to them.
There's still a lot from here, so i'm hopeful she'll have more polished.
It's an ep with songs from her other ep's. Which makes the experience messy and all over the place.
It's cute tho.
It's what a 3 track EP would be, none of the songs are longer than 2 minutes.
It's just bland and really surface level. Tho I like the direction Clairo is going for, just wish to hear a longer and more polish work.
