So this is basically what Marina thought she achieved with "Princess of Power," and Em Beihold understood the concept perfectly. The album manages to be fun to listen to without sacrificing emotional depth. Perhaps she's not revolutionizing the genre, but what she does, she does with a unique personality that sets her apart from any other current artist. It's a well-rounded debut that leaves me eager to see how she continues to evolve.
This EP was released sparingly on SoundCloud and YouTube in video format. On one hand, I love that Kim is experimenting with that more underground club sound, but my main issue is that the EP feels incomplete. After all the problems she had with her previous label and the delays, she just outdid herself and exceeded my expectations with Detour. The production is incredible, addictive and LOUDDD, and listening to 'Basketball' (produced by the Queen SOPHIE) gave me an incredible nostalgia and shows how artists can remain relevant even after they're gone! I tried to get into Dots and Loops because it's such a highly acclaimed album, and while I understand why so many people love it, I didn't quite get the hype sadly... I liked its relaxed and experimental sound, but at times I felt that several songs were too long for no reason or too repetitive. Even so, it has a very unique atmosphere and some interesting ideas that make it worth a listen.
