Oklou - choke enough
NR

album sounds like it's a castle made of crystal so frail that tapping it would cause the whole structure to be compromised and that is, make no mistake, a double edged sword. as sound design this album is nothing short of fantastic, as song it borders on being drab and pointless. still, i felt warm air brushing off my face whilst listening to it.

venturing - Ghostholding

i have a lot to say about this record as a longtime fan of Jane and venturing, but for now, to quote Dead forever "...the magics all gone". *

Ethel Cain - Perverts
90

it’s voyeurism seeps into you. you’re looking back at dozens and dozens of reflections of yourself who have your ugliness, your perversion, your pain, your passion. they all feel like you but they don’t look like you. and when amber waves starts all that built up pressure is released, and we’re reminded that we will heal from this.

and it’s happening to everybody.*

Kinoteki - The Visitor

am i in a good mood or something or has this been a killer first week for music.

Asian Glow - 11100011
86

my god he’s come back and he’s glowing like never before.

Asian Glow’s return after he hung up the hat by disassociating himself from the name was a surprise to many a person who had been following him, me included. Granted, I was not a fan of his earlier works, finding them drab and dull even for modern shoegaze standards. With each subsequent release though I slowly warmed up to his albums, be it the collab album Downfall of the Neon Youth with other prominent shoegazers ... read more

Aloupe - Lucid, etc

Ludic etc, feels like a very fitting name for an EP that feels as oddly free form as this one. These little song structure choices throughout the whole thing are subtle but they make everything blend together in a positive way where it feels like I'm along for the ride.

Jane Remover - JRJRJR

oh no.

This is the first time I've listened to Jane and felt like her production, lyrics and vocals are being limited by a genre as opposed to working in spite of it. Could just be that I've not listened to enough Rage to compare but as it stands this is the most eh I've felt on something she's made since Teen Week.

Xiu Xiu - Girl with Basket of Fruit
NR

A Skin-Walker disguised as a human got trapped in a room and was forced to create music. But it couldn't feel, only hear. So as its nature demands it should, it began to replicate, scouring every record it could get it's hands on, the dialectics of human emotion seeping into it's creation, the sonic palettes of thousands upon thousands of songs across millennia coalescing together into its artistic vision. And when it was finished, it had something. Something that told the ... read more

Patricia Taxxon - Visiting Narcissa

i think these glitch foleys might be the best thing ever actually*

Strawberry Hospital - Nullmatrix
78

short but sweet! Nullmatrix constantly shifts in phase between beautiful ambience and raucous distortion, and when they transition through one another we get splotches of black ink over a white page.

check this out if you want to hear some of the most interesting sound combinations of the year!

leroy - dariacore
74

this album is transcendentally ironic it’s Schrödinger's music. i cannot tell if Dariacore is serious or ironic until i spin it and start vibing.

Patricia Taxxon - Ten Skies
