What a surprise!
For the 10th anniversary of Teens of Denial, Car Seat Headrest has re-released one of their most popular records (I can't say one of, if not, because... Twin Fantasy). The decision to do this is, at best, pleasantly surprising and, at worst, infuriating.
First off, Will's writing is as sharp as ever on this record. While the decision to re-write some of the lyrics can come off as baffling, you can't deny that Will Toledo is still skilled with his pen. I was ... read more
Wow. Just... how hurt do you have to be to fucking make something like this?? First off, I completely understand why Will remade this. The sound here is... admirable at best, I don't know how he managed to make this sound worse than 3 but he certainly did. Such an incredible improvement from 2 on 3- not only has his songwriting gotten better but the songs are actually tolerable to listen to! Some of my favorite songs ever come from this album, even despite the lofi production (classic car seat headrest). The Beach trilogy, Portait, Ryan North, No Starving, etc are all classics and Ryan would even be remade into Culture on Quad Dub later on in his career. I find myself going back to this one a lot, and I consider this one of my favorites, even if ... read more
