Definitely their best album, although it is a bit inconsistent. "Failure games" is easily their best song, and "Blood in the river", "Quarantine" and "American dreams" are great too, but the album does have some lulls. "Pray" is pretty cringey, the interludes and postlude are skips for me every time and "Related" has a pretty boring instrumental. Still, it is a solid effort following their underwhelming last album.
At first, I didn't enjoy this album as much as I wanted to. I liked the opener a lot but I just struggled to enjoy the rest of the album that much. I kept listening to it trying to get it to click for me but the quietness just put me off massively, the album was a 6-7/10 at best. Eventually I stopped listening to it, until I decided to come back to it a year later and it clicked massively. The synth lines on Deep, Deep's chorus sounded so good. Earthmover was crushing. The best Arcade Fire album. Consistently great from start to finish, although the title track is a bit of a lull, it still doesn't break the flow of the album.
Best tracks: No Cars Go, Windowsill, Black Wave/Bad Vibrations, (Antichrist Television Blues), Keep the Car Running, Black Mirror, Intervention, Ocean of Noise
Great tracks: The Well and the Lighthouse, My Body Is a Cage
Decent tracks: Neon Bible
One of the most boring albums I've ever listened to. Eleanor Rigby is meant to be a standout, and the instrumental is just some string instrument making some uninteresting noises over and over. And don't get me started on the terrible singing on I'm Only Sleeping. The only song I found mildly enjoyable was Yellow Submarine, but even then, that may just be for nostalgic reasons.
Decent tracks: Yellow Submarine
Boring tracks: Everything else
Painful tracks: I'm Only Sleeping
Very inconsistent album, with very few highs. At least it has Pyramid Song and Life in a Glasshouse. How anyone justifies putting Pulk/Pull Revolving doors above 20/100 baffles me.
Great tracks: Life in a Glasshouse, Pyramid Song
Good tracks: Like Spinning Plates, Packt Like Sardines in a Crushed Tin Box, I Might Be Wrong, Hunting Bears
Decent tracks: You and Whose Army?, Knives Out
Bad tracks: Dollars & Cents, Morning Bell / Amnesiac
One of the worst tracks I've ever listened to in my ... read more
