Following the moderate success of Nik Kershaw's 1987 album Radio Musicola, he went back into the studio to record this album, the works, hoping that it would do better than Radio Musicola. It was not successful, and it pretty much killed Kershaw's solo career until 1999. I think it's a pretty decent albumall things considered. One Step Ahead, Cowboys & Indians and Burning at Both Ends are pretty good, but I thought everything else was just alright. I don't think this ... read more
i would probably describe this as the black sheep of Gowan's solo career. out of every solo album he's made, this is the one that sounds the most different out of all of them. which makes sense due to the fact that this is the first album he ever did, and was trying to find his sound, which he found on his next album, Strange Animal, and perfected with Great Dirty World. I really like the wide variety of sounds throughout this album. on songs like Dissidents and Hyperactive, you have some upbeat pop numbers, which I like. With songs like The Flat Earth and I Scare Myself, you have calmer songs that are also fun to listen to. Overall, I enjoyed the majority of this album
