The Story So Far - Under Soil and Dirt
87

Soundtrack to my middle-school years, and upon returning to it I found this album to be better than just my nostalgia. An incredible thrill with a consistent energy and flow from front to back. There was never a dull moment like you would’ve expect from a 2010s Pop-Punk album like this. Whenever you feel like you’re about to reach a lull point the record introduces enough new elements to make each track feel excitingly new, and not more of the same. A Warped Tour Classic and album ... read more

Going off of the most popular songs from this album you’d expect a much bigger and cohesive album. Blue Sky sounds like a combination of iconic 90s dirty grunge guitar and hooks. Mellow Emo influences and Alt-Rock power choruses can be heard in songs like The Day You Said Goodnight and Kahit Pa… but unfortunately every other track is just borderline flat and an unimaginative chore to get through, which ultimately results in an overall mid listening experience. My rating is as high ... read more

A more than worthy successor to 2023s already quirky Wallsocket. The electrifying rhythms and energy this album exudes never fails to brighten my days… even upon multiple re-listenings. Very neat to see more stuff coming from the SF scene. Btw is that Stonestown Galleria on the cover?

Angine de Poitrine - Vol.II

Super cool concepts, soundscapes, and vibes. I can see much more potential that goes beyond the peaks of this record. I imagine this follow-up as more groundwork for much grander and complex compositions, but as it is… this is extremely groovy stuff.

My New Band Believe - My New Band Believe

Was highly-anticipating this record only to be left wanting more of it. Cameron’s creativity soared with the 2 recent singles, and this album took that and went further with more fun and experimental highs to add to his catalogue. It’ll always be a treat looking forward to seeing anything from any black-midi alumni and this record continues to prove that.

Godspeed You! Black Emperor - "NO TITLE AS OF 13 FEBRUARY 2024 28,340 DEAD"

Harrowing yet beautiful. One of the most important records of this decade. Free Palestine 🇵🇸

Lift to Experience - The Texas-Jerusalem Crossroads [Remaster]

Although I’m not Christian or really that much religious myself, the weight and emotional power this album exudes is breathtaking. A lot of the sounds heard here are years, maybe even decades ahead of its time leaving me in complete astonishment as it went on. An absolute stellar listen, and one you must put aside any reservations for.

Talking Heads - Remain in Light

Electrifying, groovy, and extraordinarily bizarre. A classic that I’ll see myself often returning to.

Björk - Post

Wow.

Touchdown Jesus - It’s All Feast or Famine
88

“Let the borders erode…”

Another group worth keeping an ear-out for. Touchdown Jesus really hones in on the ideas and foundations laid on their 2024 EP “You Must Not Know Who You Are to Them” on this new EP. Instrumentally infectious and lyrically brilliant, this record hooks onto you and doesn’t let go. With flavors of King Crimson and Primus among other influences, there is an undeniable amount of talent, creativity, and musicianship being showcased. ... read more

Magdalena Bay - Second Sleep / Star Eyes

Tried my best to not listen to this in-case it was a part of a new album rollout but just couldn’t help it. Magdalena Bay is the Avant-Pop Duo we need, but not the one we deserve.

Quadeca - Vanisher, Horizon Scraper

In contention for most overrated album of all time. Was coming into this album with an open mind after hearing Godstained and all the buzz surrounding it despite the jarringly disconnected rap-verse at the end, but unfortunately I have yet to take a YouTube musician seriously. In concept all of the genre-blending going on could’ve yielded an entirely unique sound, but Quadeca’s loud and annoyingly maximalist approach ultimately drowns any prospect of anything truly being listenable ... read more

Maruja - Tír na nÓg
83

Tír na nÓg is dark, distressing, and ominously beautiful. This instrumental EP has the cleverness, kick, and transcendental elements of Post Rock’s greatest groups. Hopefully Maruja can release a full LP as every project released so far by them had me hooked.

Hesse Kassel - La Brea
33

A pale imitation of those which preceded it. Rather than finding an identity for itself, La Brea is a collage of great influences but without the bite and execution that gave those bands their individuality.

Deafheaven - Lonely People With Power
85

Having no prior knowledge, nothing could’ve prepared me for how sonically heavy the sound, rhythm, and instrumentation would be. This record feels like an impressively massive wall of noise that is comprised by many clever compliments contributed by every member. I await any and all future records from this band.

Black Country, New Road - Forever Howlong
79

Black Country New Road is reborn. While this album may be a grower for some as it was for me, the charm and passion that first drew people to the group is ever still present. I look forward to seeing the progress and creativity this version of the lineup takes as this is a great foundation to build upon.

Soundgarden - Superunknown
96

This record is up there with Grunge’s greatest. Every track hits hard, leaving you clinging onto every moment.

Pearl Jam - Ten
90

Pearl Jam’s introductory LP delivers tense and exhilarating performances as well as multiple iconic Grunge staples.

King Crimson - Islands

Calm, serene, meditative, and even beautiful at times; King Crimson makes strides in further evolving their sound.

"@samarina You're literally right and they're all piling on you. It really is baby's first "experimental" Neo-Psychedelia album so they feel that they have to defend it with every fiber of their being."
