My Chemical Romance - The Black Parade
57

Honestly a 57 is generous, but I do what the averages tell me to. The most common gripes I have about albums (lengthy songs, repetitive verses, and lack of compositional depth) hold true here. Further, I simply hate the vocals. I felt like someone was whining in my ear half the time, and not in the way I’d prefer. While there were some good songs dispersed into the destruction, nothing is going on my playlist, and I won’t be tuning back in for a very… very long time.

Very mixed bag. Most of the songs I enjoyed. I like the style, it’s very creative. Most importantly, I was not bored! Despite this, some of the songs just scratched at my eardrums the wrong way, bringing down the overall score.

I still enjoyed.

Clairo - Nomad
62

This album wasn’t exactly bad, however there was not quite anything to it. Every song had extremely similar composition, no variation in the flow or vocals, and just generally was not interesting. It would be good to sleep to.

Sabrina Carpenter - Man's Best Friend
51

This album feels like it was written by a 13 year old girl who just discovered Bo Burnham and sex.

God it’s bad. The fact that this is the same woman who produced Emails I Can’t Send is baffling. It’s repetitive, it’s unfunny, it’s 38 minutes of Sabrina Carpenter infantalizing herself and displaying none of the talent that she’s shown she has. It feels like she’s riding the high of the success of Juno (weird song.) and it’s just not working.

sombr - I Barely Know Her

My favorite 6’7 feminist

Magdalena Bay - Imaginal Disk

This was the kind of album you listen to, and then sit back and thank the universe for having the courtesy to place you in a reality where you get to experience it. She has such a pleasantly unique voice, and a way to speak words to your soul. This album makes me want to learn how to play an instrument so I could get the chance to serenade my future lover with these beautiful melodies. Vampire in the Corner feels like it was written for me specifically, and the vocals in That’s my Floor ... read more

Panic! at the Disco - A Fever You Can't Sweat Out
91

I was appalled to come on here and see this rated a 68?!? Get off my screen. AFYSCO is hands down my favorite, and most underrated, panic! Album. This is peak Brendon Urie. The vocals are raw and rough, and the whole thing radiates teenage angst (which can be devisive, but that’s the point). Also Ryan Ross. Must I say more?

PS. If you’re a fan of P!ATD or this album in the slightest, Ryan’s version of build god then we’ll talk is a must listen.

Sufjan Stevens - Carrie & Lowell
80

Amazing album full of emotion. Only reason it has any points off is the repetition of the background instrumentals and general composition. I got bored around track 9, feeling like it was one very long song. Despite this, it’s an extremely powerful album I will be adding into my rotation!
