It's a fucking masterpiece!
The Strokes debut album "Is This It" is one of the best albums my ears ever witnessed. There is so much to say about how beautiful of a project this is, and really one for yourself to dive into. I will start off by saying that the songs on this album are all on the theme of difficult relationships. It's really cool that Julian Casablancas always knows how to create such an entertaining story for every song. His voice is also so unique and fun to ... read more
Really enjoyable!
Panda Bear comes out with his project "Sinister Grift", and it is so much fun to listen to. I was spinning a wheel with my friends, and on there were some random music genres; that was the moment we stumbled across Panda Bear. I really enjoyed his music and thought it was quite trippy, which this album also is. There is a cool usage of all kinds of effects, from clicking sounds to water splashes to glass clattering, etc. I really liked the production, as it reminded ... read more
Random Punk deep-dive #3
Fucking uninspiring. I am doing this series of listening to random punk albums, but I actually chose to listen to this one because the Ramones were the pioneers of punk. I am truly disappointed with what I have just listened to. From the instrumentals to the lyrics, everything is just really uninspired and boring/frustrating to listen to. To add to that is that Dee Dee Ramone (and probably the whole band) actually admires Nazism, great! I really don't agree with ... read more
Random Punk deep-dive #2
Back with another random punk album review! These past few days, I have taken the time to listen to the reissue of The Offspring's first album, "The Offspring". The reason I have listened to the reissue is that the original release of this album isn't available on Spotify, which is such a shame. I could also write a review under the original release and give you an official track list rating, but I don't think that would be a fair rating ... read more
Random Punk deep-dive #1
I have always told myself to listen to more Punk, cause every time I listen to it, I am truly amused and blown away by the controversy this genre can deliver. So now I will start my journey off with one of the most significant female punk bands, The Slits. I will definitely take my time for this series, I will still review other albums in between.
I decided to listen to this project because I was watching a video of "Track Star*" where a snippet of "I ... read more
Cool usage of glitchy and experimental effects!
This is Squid's third full-length studio album and their first project that I listened to. I am quite impressed with how they used all of these glitchy effects and blended them in perfectly with these fun instrumentals such as the guitar, bass, horns,... I actually quite like Ollie Judge's voice; it's really unique, and sometimes you can hear a woman's voice joining in too.
Some of my favorites were "Crispy Skin" ... read more
So much fun to listen to!
Joost comes out with this extremely fun, dance/hardcore-related album "Unity", which is such a fun listen. I am from Flanders, so I speak Dutch myself, which makes it even more fun to listen to if you can understand most of it. A lot of these songs also contained Deutsch, which is really well done. I wasn't a huge fan of Joost in the past, so I don't know a lot about him. But "Europapa" and its story behind it is so beautiful. I also ... read more
She's a DIVA.
I love Björk with my whole heart; this is the 4th album of her discography I've listened to and the third album of her I am writing a review about. This album is really pleasant to listen to; the production is on point, and Björk's Scandinavian voice is again just perfect. I can't understand how she's able to come up with such a cool artistic project every time; it's just crazy, and I am just at the beginning of her discography. I am really ... read more
Not hating; I just got to get into this type of music.
Rebecca Black comes out with her second full-length album, and it's extremely well produced. If it wasn't for the production, I would've definitely rated it a lot lower. I feel like a lot of the lyrics are really uninspiring, and I also don't know if I am truly blown away by Rebecca's voice. Sure, on some tracks she does great; for example, on "Sugar Water Cyanide" she has some great vocal parts. A lot of ... read more
Alright.
LISA's first solo project, and it's filled with some funky bass lines and fun features. I really have a weak spot for a fun to listen to bass line, as I play bass myself. Which may be the reason I have rated some tracks a little higher than I normally would for these type of songs. It's also really cool to see a feature as “Future” on this project, though it would be cooler if he really did something special on this. I was truly stunned by the way LISA can ... read more
Great production!
This is Tate McRae's third studio album, and it's better than I thought it would be. I really enjoy listening to Tate's voice on almost all of these songs. The production was on point, it really blew me away at times. But, I feel like she was doing alright throughout most of the songs till the last 4 where she somewhat fell off for me. A lot of these songs subject was love, which Tate can describe as something really difficult on this album. As she has ... read more
A freaking masterpiece.
This record addresses such different ways of love, it's also not that easy to understand all the time. I will explain a bit on some of my favorites of this album. First of all I really like the way Nick Cave can use his voice. He can sound very ominous on the right tracks when he uses his deep voice. He also knows how to convey the power of a song with his voice, which is really admiring. The organ, piano and the bass are the instruments that really stood out to ... read more
It's one song.
Maruja brings out this really special EP, which can sometimes be a little too much to be honest. First of all, the saxophone on this EP is really cool; I feel like it's telling its own story. But sometimes I get a little overwhelmed by all the sounds that just cause a lot of noise. The transitions on here are just perfect, that's why I feel like it's just one song... I also heard that this was fully improvised on the spot; that's why I think it was ... read more
Not a huge fan.
This is venturing's first album and Jane Remover's side project. I don't think I like emo as much as everyone else. A lot of the songs were a bit underwhelming to me. The texts were a bit corny at times, which you can expect when listening to emo. She just sings about love and suffering in a really special way, I feel like. I also don't know if I like Jane's voice that much, to be honest. I find her holding on to her vowels a lot which is really ... read more
This album is revolutionary.
NWA's first studio album with all the original members, who all play their own roles. Ice Cube and MC Ren provide most of the lyrics. DJ Yella and Dr. Dre are the producers of these songs, although you have Dr. Dre's first "solo" track ever, "Express Yourself" on this project. To finish it off, you have Eazy-E, the founder of the group. He can also really perform on these tracks, especially with his unique persona and special ... read more
I didn't expect to enjoy this so much.
Sam Fender and his band come out with their third project, and it's quite a fun listen! The album contains some cool texts, especially when Sam makes songs for his surrogate mother and grandparents. But also, when he criticizes the music industry by referring to the difference of how they treated Amy Winehouse before and after her death.
Around this unique and fun to listen to voice of Sam, is a fantastic band that has its perfect sound. The ... read more
It moves really slow.
Low Roar comes out with their last studio-album, because of the death of Ryan Karazija. Who is the singer and founder of this band. The album was sung out of Ryan's perspective, when he would be in heaven up above. Maybe that's why most of these songs sounded really depressing to me. Which isn't always a bad thing, but I didn't think Ryan did a great job in my opinion.
Don't get me wrong, all the songs had really deep meanings, but I ... read more
Just stop glazing.
A "new" MIKE album that just doesn't do it for me. Maybe I'm hearing different music then most of you guys, but this just isn't good...
MIKE mumbles half of the time, and seems to be putting little to no effort into the music he's making. Often times the beats are fun to listen to with some alright samples and some good switch-ups in pace, but that's about it. A lot of the songs are boring me the fuck out, and some even make me want to ... read more
The Revolution Will NOT Be Televised!
This is the first time I have ever heard music created by Gil Scott-Heron, and it did not disappoint. This record tells a story, Gil addresses a lot of problems of this world.
The first song "The Revolution Will Not Be Televised" is a statement song in which he talks about that people have to stand up for themselves because, if people want change, it won't be handed to them. On "Save The Children" he talks about our innocent ... read more
I cannot unhear the fact that this sounds like no copyright music a YouTuber would use, after the first three songs.
Oklou makes her first real album, and it's quite a fun listen. She has a beautiful voice that is fun to listen to with all the different instruments used. The production uses a variety of instruments throughout this album, such as flutes, horns, a saxophone,… But also the cool effects make it really exciting to listen to. But after a couple more listens, I started to ... read more
